Glad to see you back! Thanks for today's pictures and comments. I know you are busy, so really appreciate your taking the time to do this.

We will be going on the Divina for the third time on Nov. 25. This time, we will have an inside cabin on Deck 12. Did you have a chair in the cabin, other than the "cube" under the desk?

Thank-you for following along and your patience :).

No the "cube" or the bed was the only seating options :(. I loved our location we were the second cabin down from the single elevator.

Thanks, now we know what to expect. I particularly appreciated your pictures of the Sports Bar menu, and of course, all of the food!

Thank-you so much for following along and the kind words :).

I have a real love/hate relationship with my camera. I've lost it 6 times and it's came back to me every time :D. Sometimes it takes brilliant pix and sometimes it takes crap pix it's so hard to figure out. I loved the camera I had before this one I just pointed and clicked and it took awesome pix all the time. I was so sad when it broke. I will not be getting a Nikon ever again that's for sure.

So that's a wrap for today because, you guessed it, we went back to the cabin and went to bed pretty much after dinner. We had a great day on the Divina and Jamaica was ok. I think since it was a last minute change in itinerary we got a crappy port, but Jamaica looks like a beautiful island.

Hi Ken. I have been following along (I sail in 11 days :)) and I appreciate you taking the time to write your review and answer questions along the way.

I just read a review by someone who was on your sailing, and they mentioned that the Casino was very smoky. This is the first I have heard about the Divina allowing smoking in their casino. Did you happen to notice this?

Well without actual medical diagnosis I can't say with 100% for sure it was one or the other. It's just I know my body, and the circumstances leading up to getting sick. Of course one of the main differences is that norovirus is highly contagious to others and for weeks after symptoms have stopped, while food poisoning is not contagious at all. Also norovirus does not reproduce in food as bacteria does causing food poisoning. The medical center surely was not the least bit concerned, nor were they insistent I see the Dr. in fact quite the opposite. Also in general you run a fever with norovirus, while not necessarily with food poisoning. I never did have a fever. I really only had symptoms late Thur. afternoon and evening, I was just weak as a newborn Fri., by Sat. I was pretty much fine. A virus generally runs a longer course. Also a virus takes 24 to 48 hours to effect you, in general, while a bacteria causing food poisoning effects you within hours of consuming, again in general.

I just need to jump in here about the food poisoning. I am a microbiologist and was trained in epidermiological investigations at the CDC.

From your symptons and those of others I read on your roll call, you are pointing the finger at the wrong foods and time frame.

You sounds like you ate something that was contaminated by a bacteria that needed time to grow in your body and produce the symptons of diarrhea. The diarrhea would last until your body expelled the contaminated food stuff and bacteria (a short time in duration - less than a day). If you had eaten something that was contaminated by a toxin producing bacteria, the onset would have been more rapid and started with vomiting and having diarrhea kicking in later.

Most likely, you ingested the item 12 -24 hours (or longer) before you became ill. What were you doing on Wednesday?

Also, if there was a problem with a particular food stuff on the buffet, it would be fairly easy to identify when the group of people that became ill were questioned by the on board medical staff

Yes unfortunately they do allow smoking in the Casino, but only in half. The table games side is smoke free. The majority of passengers on my cruise were European and they had no qualms about whipping out a cigarette and smoking wherever they wanted, even when other guests complained.

I'm so sorry to hear this. They must have changed their policy. When we were on the Divina this past January, the entire casino was smoke-free so we went there often. This means that I will not be able to use it at all since I am allergic to smoke.
