Never having sailed princess, I went into the thread thinking you were asking about those little toys that shoot out confetti. Then I thought, well maybe that’s the name of their drink package.

 

It sounds like only the "old and not so much fun passengers" would know what party poppers are. ;p

I am due to go on regal princess at the end of the month. I purchased the drink package prior to September. I believe they now have a limit on drinks. when I go on holiday I like to party a bit, and part of the reason for buying the package is so that I don't need to worry about how much my drinks are going to cost at the end of the cruise. now I am.going to be worrying if I have gone over the limit. is this policed? I read it was at the cruise staffs discretion?

no I do not have a drink.problem before anyone asks but would have a few cocktails whilst around the pool, a beer with lunch, couple of wines with evening meal and maybe an aperitif. few drinks in the casino, one whilst watching a show and then a few in the nightclub.

seems like princess are becoming a bit of a damp squid and are appealing to the old and not so much fun passengers again. I have been sailing with princess for 25 years and there seems to be more and more restrictions being imposed at a whim to suit the cruise line not it's passengers

What a problem, you get cut off after 15 drinks.:p

We have a friend cruising with us on our next cruise. He almost didn't get the drink package because he thought that he would get cut off after 15. We explained, the drink package is still cheaper for the first 15 drinks and any drinks after you have to pay full price for. As long as you appear ok, not drunk, not a problem, they will serve you, but if you appear like you shouldn't drink more, I suspect they will say no more. I've not been on a cruise since the change to a 15 drink limit with Princess. I did do a Carnival cruise for my MILs birthday last year and found that I only hit the limit one night. I was never turned down, but I checked my bill and indeed there were 15 on the last day.

 

My husband and I also got to test the idea of an not having a drink package on Princess and drank as much as we wanted to for one night. We found we did not get close to 15, but we did spend a lot. What we like about the drink packages is that we don't have to worry about what we are spending. The increased price does make us question if we should get it, especially for longer cruises. However, with the drink package calculator you can try to figure out if it makes sense for you. I'm on the fence for our next cruise.

I think it's good for the peace of the ship that this 15-drink "line of blotto" can help the barfolk cut someone off, partly by just pointing out to the staff that it might be time to evaluate the patron's status. It's not like you'll always have whole bars full of people at 14, 15, or 16 drinks who need to be monitored, and even then not all are going to be in any way a problem to other patrons. It is a tool, as I see it.

just for the record, Princess can refuse to serve you at any time for a variety of reasons and if you purchased a drink package, it is non-refundable.
