raz455 Posted December 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Onboard the Regal. Just got an announcement from the captain that we are diverting to San Juan for a medical emergency. We were awoken this morning around 3 am with an announcement for the medical team to report to a cabin. So sorry for that passeger! The Coast Guard will meet us off shore to make the transfer. We are supposed to arrive back in Ft. Lauderdale on time. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Forums mobile app
raz455 Posted December 26, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Coast Guard is due in 30 minutes for the transfer....so far, no more announcements from the captain. The seas are a bit rough today, so not sure how the transfer will be made. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Forums mobile app
raz455 Posted December 26, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Slowed way down. Many passengers looking at downtown. Awaiting arrival of the Coast Guard. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Forums mobile app
JF - retired RRT Posted December 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2017 If the medical ship is still there, at least the ill passenger will be able to get treatment. Sure wouldn't want to rely on the local hospitals right now.
raz455 Posted December 26, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Too rough for a transfer. They lowered a tender craft with the passenger aboard and are using it to transport into the harbor. The captain did a great job positioning the ship. All passengers remained glued to the rail and kept quiet during the process. Now we wait for the tender to return. Rare azbirdmom Posted December 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Same thing happened to us on the Regal earlier this month except the diversion was to Turks and Caicos. So sad, hopefully the passenger gets the treatment they need!
raz455 Posted December 26, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted December 26, 2017 The tender returned and we have just restarted heading to Ft Lauderdale. Sure hope the passenger will be ok. Great job by the captain, crew, and Coast Guard (it looks like they had a ship making a large circle around us while we were waiting.) It took about three hours in all . . . .
