shipgeeks Posted January 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2018 On our NA cruise, we loved BBK, and danced there most nights. Ocean Bar, on the other hand, had some music but no people. Most nights we were the only passengers there. I believe I've read that there is no BBK on the smaller ships. Right? Where are people most likely to do some dancing on Veendam? Rare Copper10-8 Posted January 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2018 No B.B. Kings on the two "S"-class (Maasdam & Veendam), four "R"-class (Rotterdam, Zaandam, Volendam & Amsterdam) vessels and/or on Prinsendam. They had them on Rotterdam in her Crow's Nest for a while, but that has been discontinued
JimnKaren Posted January 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2018 Bring your boom box, set up in the Crow's Nest and boogie the night away. Jim

Just curious what the reasoning was when it seems it was popular on other ships.

Rare Hlitner Posted January 13, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2018 Do you know if it was because it wasn't popular? Just curious what the reasoning was when it seems it was popular on other ships. The story we got was it was just one more cut-back. The BB King groups were originally 7 members but were cut to 5 on the smaller ships. But zero is better than 5 when it comes to the bean counters. Another issue was there was not a good venue for them on the smaller ships. HAL has been cutting back on music-based entertainment for years. It started when they they took away the brass and woodwinds from their show bands and turned it into a 2 keyboard, 2 guitar 1 drummer roller skating rink band (sorry, but their mix of instruments makes them sound like what we used to hear in roller and ice rinks). And then we used to have the Rosario String which were generally excellent quartets. They have been replaced by duets which are less costly and need fewer cabins. We could go on and on about entertainment cut-backs. Consider that all the HAL shows used to accompanied by a live band...now most of the production shows are simply Karaoke....with nearly everything being pre-recorded sound tracks. I should mention that these kind of cut-backs are not unique to HAL...as we have seen entertainment cut-backs on other lines. Hank
