Diamond Child Question

Recommended Posts

Got a question. Just off the Liberty 2 Sundays ago. Wife & me (Pinnacle) and our daughter, her husband (Diamond), & their 15 month old daughter (SeaPass card says Diamond). Her 2nd cruise overall, 1st as Diamond due to mommy & daddy.

Tried to use our granddaughter's SeaPass card at the bar during happy hour to get a bottle of water for her. Was told her card didn't qualify for free beverages so ended up using my card. Mom & dad wanted to use her SeaPass card to get three free photographs (since all 3 cards said Diamond) and was told their daughter's card did not qualify for a free picture so settled for the 2 free ones and bought one.

Trying to understand this. Wife & I never had this issue because we never cruised with our kids until they were adults. Mom & dad had to pay for her cruise and pay for her gratuities. I know our granddaughter is pretty much a toddler but why is Royal giving her a Diamond SeaPass card if it can't be used for the Diamond perks?

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there something in the small print that I'm not aware of? Great cruise by the way except for that. Thanks.

Tim

Diamond "kids" have different perks than the adults. My Grandson was a Diamond member on his own points around 13-14 years old. At her age, she probably wouldn't benefit from even the kid's perks. It includes some time in the arcade, a shake or a BOGO on shakes at Johnny Rockets, and they used to get a special gift during the cruise, but that probably ended when adults who were Diamond members stopped getting the gifts. I don't remember any of the other perks for those under 18. I think those are the only two my Grandson ever used. There should have been a sheet of paper in your cabin with the perks or it may have been loaded on her/his SeaPass card.

Even after they turn 18, they don't get most of the benefits.

Just sailed Anthem over Christmas with my almost 20 yo and my 15.5 yo. Both D in their own right.

While I expected the 15 yo to have the kids benefits, other than the drink coupons and the BOGO drink options, I thought the older one would have the adult benefits. Nope. He had the same as the younger one.

I went over to the LA and asked about it. There is no benefit sheet for the 18-21 yo group. They aren't kids and they aren't adults (at least to Royal). The LA ended up giving him the free photo benefit and the $5 match play, since he is old enough to be in the casino.

So no, they don't get 3 free drinks (even non-alcoholic) with their card, they don't get the photo, and they don't get the casino benefit, but if you have an older kid, stop by the LA desk and see if they will grant it to them.

We used the D lounge nightly so both kids were able to get a drink there (non-alcoholic of course), although no one asked my older son for ID so he probably could have gotten a drink if he was inclined.

I would hope that at some point RCI would change the D & D+ kids perks to more appropriate offerings based on age categories. Our under age 5 grandchildren (D+) don't need coffee, spa treatment or internet ;)
