The activities including cutting edge unique stuff, the entertainment, the variety of food options, different class ships so you can pick the ship that is right for you. Also love the elegance...you get a real "WOW" feeling.

I’ve cruised both lines and prefer Royal. Our preference is based on service. I think customer service will make or break your experience. Royal has exceeded over Carnival in this area, in my opinion.

There isn’t much about Royal I don’t like but if I had to pick something it would be enrichment opportunities. I would love to see history and astronomy lectures.

When we cruised on the Grandeur out of Baltimore, they had a great lecturer from Maryland. We attended two lectures. In one he spoke about the Chesapeake Bay and the other, the Bermuda Triangle. Very interesting guy. I too would love to see more of this kind of offering. Celebrity had an astronomy lecturer which we enjoyed as well.

We had an astronomy lecturer on our last transatlantic, and he was fantastic. However, we rarely see this kind of enrichment program on Royal's typical 7-day Caribbean cruises.

I haven’t sailed Carnival, but have to agree with others who cite the staff on Royal. Recently cruised the Empress to Cuba and have nothing but praise, good food, good service, etc. Really loved our Grandeur cruises as well. Not crazy about the Enchantment... But back to the OP’s question, we mostly haven’t tried other cruise lines because of the C&A perks. If they are, as some say, becoming less valuable, we may try other lines.

If Carnival would bring a decent ship to Charleston, I would probably try them.

We've sailed Carnival a couple of times when our kids were younger. THose were our first cruises and we enjoyed them. Then my wife and I sailed Freedom alone. With a balcony. Now we're hooked I think. We're scheduled on Oasis in April. We love the large ship. We like to walk around and enjoy not going through the same way over and over.

My wife and I did a number of cruises when we first got married, Celebrity, Princess and HAL as well as our first on RCI. We enjoyed ourselves on each of them but they all had different personalities. We did RCI first and found ourselves comparing the other lines to RCI and wanted to go try RCI again. We took some time off from cruising when our kids were babies but started again about 18 months ago on Independence and have since done two more on Freedom and Harmony.

Overall we really like the the atmosphere and people. Always seemed like the other passengers were similar to us. To top it off, my kids have absolutely loved the kids clubs and other activities. I’m sure we will try other lines again in the future but not for the next couple years.
