Kiwi_cruiser Posted March 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2018 Its great to see them doing a dry dock in Sydney for once :) It has been ages since a cruise ship has been in the Sydney dry dock. Pacific Jewel will be nice and fresh for her Auckland season.

lagoon380 Posted March 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2018 She needs a lot of work, hopefully they do a good job on the refurb.
Scottygirl1 Posted March 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2018 My sister and niece are on the first sailing from Auckland and I'm on her in June - looking forward to the renovations. My daughter used to call the Connexions Bar "The bar where people go to die"... it was so depressing. Thankfully that is one of the renovations. Docker123 Posted March 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2018 Could have been a noro outbreak. I read best practice is to dry dock for a thorough clean. ;p
Scottygirl1 Posted March 8, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2018 Could have been a noro outbreak. I read best practice is to dry dock for a thorough clean. ;p This was planned for awhile - here's how she'll look. https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/18522-p-o-australia-to-refurb-pacific-jewel.html

Docker123 Posted March 8, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 8, 2018 It was a joke.... Following on from the ambulance chasers trying to get up a class action on Sun Princess. Lawyer said it was best practice .....

Scottygirl1 Posted March 8, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 8, 2018 Pacific Jewel needs to pick up its game Sent from my iPhone using Forums No doubt about that. Sadly the aren't doing anything to the cabins which would be good.
lagoon380 Posted March 9, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2018 The cabins weren't too bad but what really needs attention is all the corrosion around windows and open deck areas, just painting over it just isn't good enough, really makes the ship look old. Rare MicCanberra Posted March 9, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 9, 2018 There will always be rust on a ship.
lagoon380 Posted March 9, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 9, 2018 It's not just rust, the areas have no metal left so just plugged up with some type of filler and painted over, it's ugly and in plain sight in public areas, not a good look.
Rare MicCanberra Posted March 9, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 9, 2018 I suppose it doesn't look good, but as long as it isn't dangerous I don't care too much.

Esilef Posted March 9, 2018 #18 Share Posted March 9, 2018 Cheers Stu. Can't see any rust from here. :p That’s because she’s hiding behind the trees
Rare MicCanberra Posted March 9, 2018 #19 Share Posted March 9, 2018 So she needs to cruise with trees around her all the time then, although then people will complain about the views. Can't win.

Rare MicCanberra Posted March 10, 2018 #21 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Interesting about the comment being made on the hull being able to withstand a torpedo. Makes you wonder why they need a cruise ship that strong but our warships were not.

Rare MicCanberra Posted March 11, 2018 #23 Share Posted March 11, 2018 No you misheard - it's not the ship that can withstand a torpedo blast but the dry dock. Maybe we should build war docks instead of warships then.
