pepcab Posted October 2, 2018 Author #28 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Why not helicopter? Less money but same sights.
Flatbush Flyer Posted October 2, 2018 #29 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Less money but same sights. Not exactly. Cessna can't drop vertically and hover for photos (or just to marvel) in canyon or NaPali coves.

KeepCalmBearOn Posted October 2, 2018 #32 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Has anyone done the Tubing The Ditch tour or the plantation with the railway? Is a rental car recommended or would a taxi suffice? They both seem to be off the same highway and not terribly far apart, just thinking if there is time to do both We've done the Mountain Tubing, just not as part of a cruise and it is one of the most unique, fun things we've ever done. You could do the plantain railroad too and even head south to Hanapepe and Waimea Canyon. I would definitely rent a car as there is so much you can do with it. For the OP (TS), you can do North and South in one day, but you need to be really organized and well planned out. I'd do North first, then South because of the traffic patterns. If you are South you don't need to fight back through Lihue to get back to the ship/car rental agency.
Marigold252 Posted October 2, 2018 #33 Share Posted October 2, 2018 Skip the shave ice and donuts and head straight for Hamura Saimin in Lihue on Kress St. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Save room for the lilikoi pie! alwalaska Posted October 2, 2018 #34 Share Posted October 2, 2018 We just got back last week. We rented our SUV for only 1 day. We got out early, rented the car, drove to the closest waterfall and went on a Cessna with Wings over Kauai. We started driving to the canyon about 11:30. Bring food from the ship. We got the Shaka app. Really cheap and works great ! We stopped at all of the lookouts in the pouring rain and went all the way to the top. Didn't see much due to the rain, but the app provided a lot of information. Rain stopped, so we stopped at all the lookouts again on the way down again. It took extra time, but was worth it as we saw much better views. We wanted to go to the other side of the island, but got stuck in traffic on the way back. It was 6:00pm by the time we got back and was starting to get dark. We didn't want to bother with a car the next day due to the early departure time. We hung out by the beach near the Marriot and waited until Duke's opened at 11:00 to get a piece of the famous Hula Pie. What did you think of Wings Over Kauai. We currently have them booked for a 9:30 flight. We are using their transportation and then have a car rented from noon to noon. I figured depending on the weather we would either do the Canyon after our air tour or at the crack of dawn on day 2. For the original poster - The planes with Wings over Kauai are still pricy, but a bit less than the helicopters, especially the private helicopters.
