GreenValleyDogWalker Posted April 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2018 HELP ! Never been to Tokyo before - departing on Celebrity Millennium November 10 - have a choice of arriving into either of the 2 major airports - Haneda or Narita - plan to arrive into Tokyo the afternoon of November 8 - want to be where we can "tour" - would like to stay in a hotel that provides Airport Shuttle Service (we are "senior citizens" that really don't want to try to find the correct train/bus connections when jet-lagged !) Will then need to get from the hotel to the cruise port on the 10th Would appreciate tips on which airport - which hotel - THANKS
bedford5 Posted April 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2018 We are going to Tokyo for our first time. We chose to fly into Haneda because it was closer to downtown Tokyo and Yokohama. There was really no difference in price. For our hotel, we are staying at the Marriott in shibuya because it’s close to rail. We’ll take the limousine bus from the airport. Still researching the rest of the logistics for transfers. Hope this helps a little. Sent from my iPad using Forums
mustgo Posted April 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2018 Our first time too. Go to Haneda Airport website. Look. Use hotel shuttle transport. Tells which hotels are serviced. Same for Norita but more expensive and longer ride. We picked hyat regency for a points stay. We are senior seniors

Are you finding that the hotels in Japan give discounts for seniors?
loeb Posted April 4, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2018 I would recommend Haneda, as noted it's closer to Tokyo, kind of between Tokyo and Yokohama. It use to be that flights from the US arrived late at night, now American (and I think Delta) plus ANA and JAL have flight that arrive in the afternoon so it's easier and less expensive to find transportation. For transportation, we used Green Tomato (from Narita, but they also have a shared bus / van service from Haneda). We then booked a shared van with Green Tomato from our Tokyo Hotel to the cruise port terminal in Yokohama. Note that there are less expensive ways to get to the hotel and cruise port but that usually means dealing with you luggage. Here is a site for more information. https://www.greentomato-j.com/eng/shuttle/ We stayed at the Metropolitian Marunouchi which is right next to the main train station in Tokyo. You didn't mention cost, this is a mid range hotel, not the cheapest and not the most expensive. It's on the top floors of an office building. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1066443-d653033-Reviews-Hotel_Metropolitan_Tokyo_Marunouchi-Chiyoda_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html Since you probably don't want to hassle with buying train tickets (although the ticket machines are in English it can be a challenge to figure out the fair every time.). There are many youtube videos that explain how to use the ticket machines. However, I would recommend that you buy a suica or pasmo card (prepaid charge card to use for the train and at stores and other locations). I think you can even buy them before you go, it not, they are easy to get in Japan The following is more information https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/services/pasmocard?currency-code=USD&ap=b6021as&gclid=CjwKCAjw75HWBRAwEiwAdzefxLltVjtt-1pz5Qb_4nQRHAyv-MlMVGz3SwCY2VXX1TI3rSzKEDp01BoCZNAQAvD_BwE Note that the Tokyo Train station is very big and you will probably get lost, but just ask for directions, people are very helpful. In one case, the person we asked for direction, actually took time to walk us to the right train. You didn't ask, but I would recommend for touring either getting a guide or getting familiar with the JR Yamanote train line (Green Line). It has stops at most of the major tourist attractions and it goes in a circle so your less likely to get lost. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2370.html Have a great time.
