Puerto Rico-recent visit?

Has anyone been to Puerto Rico recently? What is the condition of the island and what shore excursion are still offered? Worth the visit now or later?

I have been trying to get the same answers! I don’t know if anyone knows what’s going on in San Juan!

We were in San Juan in February. The city is open and eager for tourists . The forts in Old San Juan are open. Same for shops and restaurants. Yes you will see hurricane damage and lots of construction but all was OK.

Was there in early April. Extensive damage to buildings and many hotels closed. For a beach day, would recommend going to the Marriott Stellaris Resort & Casino.

 

If you're more adventurous, I talked with an excursion manager who said the rainforest was open as well (however that takes 1 hour+ to drive to).

We did a cruise from San Juan in March and stayed at The Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan for one night pre-cruise. That part of Puerto Rico was fine. You still see some windows covered with a board here and there. Some torn awnings and lots of construction. All the shops and restaurants are open.

 

We walked around a lot and went to San Cristobal Fort. The Paseo de la Princesa is closed by the old City Gate because the walkway was damaged from waves that hit San Juan from the biggest of the Nor’easters we had a few weeks before.

 

There was lots to see. The free trolley was running and the people seemed happy to have visitors. Oh and the airport was fine.

Hi there! Would never book through the cruise...too expensive and then one has to be limited by their schedule.

 

It is very easy to easy get an Uber to the hotel (around $9 each way) and go at your own leisure :)
