Staten Island Ferry - New Year's Eve Fireworks

Looking at things to do on NYE I've seen mention of the ferry. Has anyone actually done this? Is it very cold? Where is the best place to sit and to see the fireworks. What time ferry would you get? And finally (phew) do you have to book?

The only fireworks I know of on NYE are in Central Park. I’m unsure of what the reference to the ferry is.

I think you should contact NYC Tourist information.

You probably can't see the fireworks from the ferry.

The ferry carries thousands there is no fare and no reservations. Therell be plenty of room, Just don't try to make it last second, you'll miss it. Get there early.

And don't forget, get off the boat, go through the terminal, the board again. Don't dally or you'll wait at least half an hour for the next boat and there's nothing to do at midnight in the St George terminal except watch the antics of the bums.
