Depends on where you are going and your citizenship. US needs a visa for Brazil.

We were in Uruguay last year and didn’t need a visa. We have a Brazil visa and last time we were in Chile you needed a visa if you came in via plane. This year we were in Asia and 10 days before we left the visa requirement for Sri Lanka changed; the point being check the government website and act accordingly realizing that in these times things can change on a tweet!

We cruised aboard Infinity from Chile to Argentina with a couple stops at Uruguay in Jan 2017. We did not need a visa.
