Last Minute Resident Guarantee Rate

Recommended Posts

Upgrades are based on availability and what you're willing to pay to get one. Upgrade is not guaranteed. If it's last minute, options are likely very limited. Read the fine print of the offer you are considering before you book it. There are different types of resident rates and specific rules associated with each and you will be bound to the rules associated with the offer you book. There is no one good answer.

I had that happen in January. I was scheduled for surgery a few weeks later, the weather was worse than usual, and I was desperate for a break. I booked the Liberty at the last minute, and had a choice of a suite or an inside guarantee. I have done guarantees in the past and they worked out well. Not this one, though. We were assigned a handicapped inside on the Lido deck, just inside the doors. I was excited at first, because so many people rave about cabins on that deck, and I remember firemanbobswife really enjoying those specific cabins. It was not a good match for us, very noisy with all of the people going in and out, and the huge bathroom was a result of space taken from the cabin (plus very little storage). The inside guarantee was the only choice, there were no cabins left to select. I seriously doubt that we will ever try a guarantee again, even though we had a great time on the cruise in spite of the cabin.

Good point, ZoeyVictoria. Last minute guarantees are generally extended to fill leftover cabins that didn't sell for whatever reason. I've booked guarantees several times (but usually with greatly reduced casino offers), and have been very satisfied most of the time with the cabin assignment I received, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. When it hasn't worked out well for me, I have to remind myself I got a great deal where I may not have otherwise cruised. You have to put it in perspective and be the type of person that can make the best of a situation based on circumstances. A bad day on a ship is way better than a good day at work!

I'm looking at a Last Minute Resident Guarantee Rate. If I choose this rate and then do not like the cabin I'm assigned, would they allow me to pay to upgrade to a cabin of my choice? Or are no changes allowed?

As long as you are not downgrading your mega category (IS OV BL) or your metacategory (A B C D E F) and as long as the upgrade results in added revenue, you will be allowed to upgrade.

Have you actually tried asking Carnival, because it is their policy, not cruise critic policy.

You can call Carnival and get a different answer each time. I think it’s always wise to come here and see if there is a consensus of responses.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve called Carnival and had to tell the Rep what Carnivals policy is on a certain issue. Some are just clueless.

Consensus doesn't mean any of them will be correct. Heck, 95% of the questions asked here on CC can be answered by checking carnival's actual web site.

If 5 people respond with the same result, I would think that’s pretty accurate. Or maybe we define consensus differently.

People cruise without every coming to cruise critic, so since this site does exist, it makes sense to ask people what experience they had, rather than just call and get potentially bad info from a rep.

While many things can be answered, outside of CC, this board would pretty dead, if people didn’t ask those questions.

This is a resource, no reason not to use it, before calling Carnival so you have a greater understanding of how others handled the situation and the results they got.
