Howdy,

Thank you for your view(s).

Do they have the sit-down emarkation lunch ?

Do they allow us to bring on bottled water or are they getting to be like that Nickle and Dime Line now?

No, there is no MDR sit down embarkation lunch, but that is available on that "Nickle and Dime Line" in the Savor or Taste smaller MDR's. There should be sit down embarkation lunch in Jiji's and Cucina del Capitano. Cucina del Capitano lets you choose a pasta, sauce, protein and vegetable to be custom made for you. Jiji's is a similar version with Asian stir fry like Mongolian Wok is on a few of the other ships in the fleet.

They allow 12 cans or bottle of non alcoholic beverage.
Carnival does NOT allow any bottled water or non alcoholic beverage to be brought on board, only a 12 pk per person of a canned beverage. You can also bring on an additional 12 pk at any port.

Thanks for your review. We’re sailing on the Horizon on July 31 and can’t wait!

That was really nice what you were able to do for your neighbours. I’m sure they were delighted. As a family of 4 with two teens (18 & 15) we always look for connecting cabins. When searching deck plans for available cabins when booking, I always find it curious (and frustrating) when I see one cabin of two connecting already booked. If I was booking a single cabin, these would be the last ones I would consider. I don’t understand why someone would choose one half of connecting cabins when many others are available. If the ship is full and options are limited, I get it. But that’s not usually the case. Maybe I’m missing something.

Glad you had a great cruise. Looking forward to another great one.

It’s funny you say that you wonder why people would choose a connecting cabin. Before I changed my cabin for the 3rd time for my upcoming cruise I did book a cabin with a connecting door and I realized it months later when I was upgrading to a balcony cabin the second time around. I’ve been in a connecting cabin once on a cruise and we did not like it at all. So I’m wondering if sometimes people are just choosing cabins without always looking more carefully at what they’re choosing like I did. I just did not mean to choose a cabin like that so I was surprised to find out I did. Idk. :)

Hey, if I have a late seating for dinner, will I have any trouble attending shows such as the welcome aboard show, Lip Sync Battle, HASBRO game show and the love and marriage show?

Scheduling. On past cruises we always missed shows because of the way they were scheduled. Some during dinner, some too late at night (my wife and son are early sleepers). On this cruise we saw...wait for it... 16 different comedy shows and every single production show/other show. what they did was added a 5:30PM Comedy show which we were able to watch each night before dinner. then after dinner a 7:30PM show in the main theatre. then adult comedy at 8:30PM. each comedian had 2 separate PG shows that were repeated twice and two R rated shows that were repeated so 4 total comedians doing 4 shows each.By 9:00PM every night we had done all the shows and I was able to do other things (Casino, Walk around, Listen to music)

Many shows for late seating dinner patrons are at 700, before you have your dinner

I believe the preliminary lip sync battles are during the day poolside and only the finals are in the main showroom at night. If I am mistaken, I will be corrected.

We were on the same cruise. Totally agree about the Liquid Lounge. Shows were great but you had to get there early. Elevator service was hit or miss, though I admit I was probably causing some of the delays when I would inadvertently hit the wrong floor on the screens (sorry!)

So nice you were able to move rooms for that family!

Thank You! It was very easy to accidently hit the wrong floor on those screens!

Thanks for your review, doublek2, Great that you switched cabins for that family

We were on the Horizon Memorial Day and had many similar reactions to the ship as you. Just a few small differences.

I thought it was home made ice cream they were serving in the buffet. I knew from the Vista where they had 4 flavors that the lines formed quickly and there could be a wait as the next batch was made. Even with just 2 flavors, lines were long and they had a hard time keeping up. Just didn't think it was "gelato".

We enjoyed the more modern look and decor of the Horizon, esp. the new atrium LED displays. They had many different designs, and cued up drawings from St Jude's kids. I'll guess there'll be some Independence Day themes today!

So thanks for your comments.....and you made me remember how I used to enjoy fishing in your area as a teen growing up in the Bronx.

Thanks! I was not sure it was gelato either but since there was a sign that said gelato I had to give them the benefit of the doubt!

Glad you have good memories of City Island! It has changed quite a bit over the years but there is still a lot of fishing here:)!

Kenny,

I too loved the chocolate cookies. I am so disappointed they won't be there for our upcoming cruise!

Kelly

We can always hope that they find their way back! I am going on Magic again in August and I am keeping my fingers crossed!

On Our Cruise They Did Lip Sync Battle and Hasbro at 7:30PM so you could catch it before late dining or as we were able to after early dining. We had a great dining staff and were out of dinner by 7:00PM most nights - that never happened to us before! Love and Marriage was at 2:00PM on the last sea day. The Welcome Aboard Show was at 9:30PM.

12 Packs of cans are all that is allowed. I think it is one per person. We usually pre-order a 12 pack of water thru Carnival. to be delivered to our cabin on the first day. I believe it costs $4.50 now.

Embarkation was as smooth as we have ever done out of NYC. Terminal to ship in about 15 minutes. Debarkation was great as well. Ship to shore in 20 minutes. No more customs forms in NYC and customs basically checked our passports and told us to have a nice day! No questions or anything.

Let's go with the negatives first.

Elevators. Yes folks the elevators really are that bad! My office building uses this technology so I am sure It could work if programmed correctly. Often had to wait at least 10 minutes for an elevator. Did a lot of walking on this ship!

Feel free to ask any questions!

Kenny

What's with the elevators and is there something new I have to know about them. My husband has limited mobility and uses a walker and waiting that long seems excessive or was that at busy times like dinner.

Dear doublek2,

A Monroe County, NY firm, Wegmans has the lowest cost bottled water here in NJ where we do not even have bottle deposits nor container ones..

2.45$ for a case of 35 packed water. Seven cents a bottle.

But alas people were said to be so called smugglers in the plastic bottles and sealed cases. IMHO it was a way to increase revenues oin the main line CCL :NYSE ships. Yet the other Carnival lines allow us to bring abaord unlimited water and soda pop.

So that is why i think it is mere revenue /profit means.

Thank you again.

Please keep, telling everyone the Deep Blue Secrets of our HORIZON ship..

Thanks!

Dear psupa,

Howdy,

These elevators are now becoing the normalcy.

Easy, simple, operation once known how to do it too.

1. Press the box

2. Press the floor button the amount of times you have passengers to go to the selected floor.

The banning of bottled water and now charging for it is not a money grab by Carnival. If it was a money grab, they would charge much more than what they are charging for a 12 pack. The bottles of water and soda were banned because of the time consuming labor involved with security checking each and every bottled to make sure it was indeed water and not a clear alcohol. Because of smugglers they now charge a reasonable fee for water and people can still bring on a 12 pack of canned soda per person and an additional 12 pack at any port of call.

I find what carnival charges to be completely reasonable considering you're a captive audience, and also that I don't have to lug a heavy case of water onboard (shh, don't let them hear). I think Disney and NCL(?) charge something like $30-$40 a case...

On the Horizon (and Vista) You select your elevator by pressing a button outside the elevator area. You will be assigned an elevator letter (Each elevator has a separate letter) and you will go on that one.

The excessive waits were for the most part during the busiest times. Most of those waits were between 5 and 10 minutes. I have a feeling they will tweak it over time and it will improve. I know that the programming on these can be adjusted.

That should be a great sailing (08/28). John Heald is going on that one!
