Massage services

Same here. I had a massage on Grandeur a few years ago, and it was a very good massage. And I have regular pro massages at home, and have had a wide range of massages around the world.
Wan Pen on Oasis is awesome.

As a massage therapist, I can tell you that like any service, it's often hit and miss. What I really dislike about the spa on the ships is the hard sell at the end of the massage. I use particular products with my clients, and I make those products available for purchase should a client wish to take something home. I HATE how on the ships they spend 15 of your 60 minutes trying to get you purchase whatever product they used. Also, I think the prices are extortionate. I had a Lime & Ginger salt scrub during a port day, and I can get the same treatment at home at my local spa for half the price.

Honestly, I would treat her to two treatments at your local spa at home for the same price as on the ship, and spend your money on the ship on something else.

I checked in my CP last night for my upcoming cruise and I think it had a 60 min at $99 purchased in advanced, $130 on board. That is ridiculously overpriced. I’ve probably seen over a dozen LMTs on land and never once did they try to “upsell” anything to me.

I resisted but had to share my approach. Years ago I did get a couple of massages on board. They were ok, but not stellar. And as another poster stated they did try to sell me product. What I do now (not all the time but several times) is I will either do a little research on ports of call (internet or here on CC) or look around port for massage services. Of course remain mindful of safety etc. I have had some of the best massages in Alaska, Mexico, Europe for half the price. Sometimes the therapists have booths or offices near the ports. (Once I had a knee problem and a therapist I found online in Alaska spotted the issue and through her technique solved it...years ago and it has never come back!) Just a suggestion...

Massages in Phuket were $30. [emoji6]

It does have that reputation.

In all seriousness, I am actually a bit intrigued by the previous poster’s suggestion about getting a massage at port instead of the ship. I’ve had plenty of massages here in America, and obviously styles differ around the world. I’d like to try something new.

John - you’re a well traveled gent, we know you like massages in Thailand, anything to report on in the Carribean?

Try a massage in an upscale hotel or resort spa. They can easily be over $100 per hour.

You are comparing apples to oranges. Independent spa versus part of a larger organization.

I had a couple of massages in Barbados when I was there.

One was SUPERB, but priced quite high. Very professional lady, brought a table to my hotel.

The other was a more reasonable price, but not nearly as good.

Also had one on the main street in Nassau. Very nice massage, but similar price to on board (I was not on a cruise, but there for work).

I am in Philippines now, outside the hotel, you can get a creditable massage for $6. In the hotel, it is about $40.

I've only had them on the ship or at home.

Home is definitely cheaper, but not as much fun. [emoji6]

I have been getting one and sometimes two each cruise. It's cheaper than the casino. [emoji16]

The lovely Wanpen from Oasis.

The massage I have had on board have been very good. And very expensive compared to land ones.

But well worth it for a nice gift.

Agreed. They do cost more than on land but every one I have ever had on any line has been good. Personally I love the hot stone massage, but it's a personal choice. Note that there will be an 10% gratuity added on after the massage

18%, but I add more on top of it.
