metal outer room doors

The cabin doors are generally metal, but they are coated so that only good, strong magnets will work. Sheet magnets will work if they are large enough You might also consider some of the adhesives, such as Command Strips. You just have to be careful not to damage the door.

We have found the doors on Carnival not to be metal, although we were able to attach our magnets to the door frame. Suggest you ask on the board here for the cruise line you are sailing. EM

Due to fire code regulations, I would be very surprised if the doors were not metal. Now, whether those metal doors are magnetic or not is a different question. Some may be stainless steel, or they may have paint or vinyl film covering that renders them only slightly magnetic.
