bouelle11 Posted January 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2019 Going on our first alaskan cruise in July with the family (6 people total, all adults). Our ports are Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Victoria. Is there any must do excursions in these ports? Is one port better for whale watching vs another? What about fishing? We're pretty much open for any type of excursion. Thanks!
AKStafford Posted January 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2019 There's no "must dos" since everyone's preferences are different. If it was me I'd do a whale watching cruise out of Juneau and the White Pass & Yukon Rail out of Skagway.
CruiserBruce Posted January 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2019 I agree...must do is what interests you, not what we say it is. Every one of your ports is discussed here daily, on dozens of threads. A little reading on the board would be very helpful.
Northern Aurora Posted January 7, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2019 If the OP hasn't already done so, then consider reading the trip reports which are organized by year and posted at the top of this forum index. They are quite fast to skim through, and there are numerous ideas for potential port excursions.

Words can not describe it! Most of our AK cruises have had a very short time in port in Ketchikan, sadly. I love this port - so beautiful! If you are only there a brief time, it's a great "walk around" port. Creek Street is lovely. Alaska stole our hearts the first time we cruised there - it's our favorite cruise destination. Melinda Brasher Posted January 23, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2019 I agree with whale watching in Juneau. One of my favorite days ever was a hike in Skagway. If your party's up for it and the weather's good, the Upper Dewey Lake hike is spectacular.
