Busy Day in San Francisco

Monday, Feb 11 was a busy day in San Francisco as far as cruise ships go with 3 ships in port. This is very rare for San Francisco, especially in February. Occasionally there are 2 ships in the City during the May/September migration of ships to/from Alaska and Florida.

On the left is Grand Princess. No surprise there since she homeports here year round. In the center is the MSC Magnifica, and on the right the former Royal Princess. As many know Princess Diana was the Godmother of Royal Princess. She also made maritime news when she debuted in 1984 as one of the first ships built with no inside cabins. Today she is named Artania and sails for Phoenix Reisen, a German line.

Both the Magnifica and Artania called in San Francisco as part of their 2019 World cruises.

Yes..That’s very unusual for San Francisco. We’re very lucky to have another cruise terminal as a backup that can handle 2 cruise ships.
