kruisinkris Posted February 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2019 I went back to postings clear in July 2018 and didn't see this question: In travel brochures, pictures of Santorini, etc. they seem to always show the white washed homes with the beautiful blue roofs clinging to the cliffs. Can these be viewed from the cruise ship in the harbor? Or can they be viewed from the tram in Fira? Or does a person have to go to Oia to see them? Thanks. Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 19, 2019 The truly breathtaking views you are thinking of are from Oia, I believe (like the one below). You cannot see them from the ship or from the tram. Thira is not as striking.

pfopma Posted February 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2019 Here is an image of the position of a ship in the caldera and Fira. There are some nice views sailing into the port but you really want to get off the ship to see the views from the top.
Rare Hlitner Posted February 25, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2019 The view from the ship will not let you fully appreciate the blue roofs but can be spectacular. In over 50 years of extensive travel, one or our most memorable views was on the original Star Princess as we sat in the hot tub late one afternoon while our ship was in the caldron below Fira. As the sun got very low in the sky and reflected off Santorini, the entire island was bathed in a gorgeous golden glow with the white buildings of both Fira and Oia (in the distance) quite beautiful. We have been back to Santorini many times but have never again experienced this phenomena. Of course the views when in Oia are always spectacular as are some views in Fira.
