Questions about Ocean Medallion apps and Concierge

I am on the Regal later this year and using the Ocean Medallion and wifi for the first time. I just now downloaded the Ocean Ready, Ocean Now, Ocean Compass, and Play Ocean apps. Can these be used on the ship without wifi or do I need to use my precious few free minutes for them to work. (I just turned Platinum so I will have just those free minutes, not buying a package)

I've heard about something called Ocean Concierge. Is this the new name for the old intranet where I could check my cabin charges, message my travelling companions, see the schedule of events, and sign into wifi? If so does it still work the same way---turn on airplane mode, find Princess wifi, sign in using browser? Do I need a new username/password for the wifi or do I use the same one as the 4 apps I downloaded?

Thanks for any help. I want to know what I'm doing before I get on the ship instead of wasting time when I should be enjoying my vacation!

Although the Ocean apps do need to be on the ship's wifi to work, it does not count against your paid (or free) minutes. Those are charged only for outside apps (not sponsored by Princess).

The Ocean Compass app allows you to track your "shipmates" (those who are on your reservation or otherwise allow you to track them) as well as ship maps. It also includes a chat feature.

Ocean Ready is the app that sets up your account - your security photos, avatar, PIN code and boarding pass.

Ocean Now allows you to order drinks from anywhere on the ship. If you are sitting poolside, use the app to order a drink. If you decide to move to the buffet, the server will (theoretically) find you to deliver your drink.

Ocean Play and Ocean Casino allow you to play games throughout the ship. Play is geared to the kids, while Casino is geared to the adults (and charges money).

Again, although all the apps need connection to the ship's wifi, they do not use your minutes.

And "Ocean Concierge" replaces the Princess@Sea app, so to answer your question, yes. It is a separate app but once the icon is on your device you just have to tap it to access -- no need to sign in or use browser. When you get onboard, the great staff at the "Ocean Front" area next to the photo gallery will be able to help you out with any questions or glitches!

Do you have to be tracking a person in order to chat with them?  We are traveling with another couple and I have no interest in tracking their whereabouts on the ship, but I might like to be able to use the chat function if we’re headed for a drink and would like invite them to join us, etc.

Nope. No need to track anybody to use the chat. You will need their user ID though.

If you use the app that sets up your info be sure to take your picture straight on - not from the side or at an angle. Be sure it is a full front-face picture.

Thank you for the information.

I gave up on Ocean Ready for this trip.  Worked for our December CB cruise but not this time, despite assistance from the 800 number.  It had to do with the email associated with the reservation and I was told there was nothing they could do about it.  Will discuss with the Ocean support folks onboard the Regal.
