Attending a wedding in Puerto Rico on embarkation day.  Royal and Celebrity ships sail at 8:30 pm.

What is the latest time to embark a ship that leaves at 8:30?

I've seen both 60 and 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure.  I'd probably try to give myself some leeway and plan to make it by 6:30pm.

We were recently on Summit out of San Juan.  The latest to board for us was 7:00.

Sort of related to your question...boarding later is kind of nice.  The terminal will be empty.  Your room will be ready.  We boarded Freedom out of SJU last October at almost 4pm.  The terminal was a ghost town.  Walked right on the ship.

We just got off the Freedom and all aboard was posted NLT 8:00 PM for the 8:30 PM sail away.
