Bad experience on the Breeze. Worried about lack of cleanliness

I haven't read through the 7 pages of comments so, I'm only addressing the OP's questions. My only experience on Carnival was on the Breeze when it was maybe about a year old, so I did not notice any cleanliness issues. And after reading the overall CruiseCritic opinion on Carnival, I was extremely surprised about how wonderful both the ship and the experience was. My only experience on Royal Caribbean was this year and though I didn't feel the ship was as crowded (unless in the buffet or waiting on an elevator), I was very uncomfortable because of the lack of cleanliness in the cabin. I had the room steward go through 6 sets of sheets before we finally found a set without hairs on them (bleh). Of course, I still ended seeing one but flipped them a different way. This was also an entirely different experience then what I expected because of all of the RCI is so much better and Carnival is the Walmart of cruiseline type comments on CruiseCritic and cruising forums in general. There were some other things that made me leery of how sanitary things were on the Royal Caribbean ship. There was mystery debris on the toilet when we arrived, the bathroom overall just appeared dingy, and the bathroom at the spa was like an old high school bathroom or shared dorm shower room. It had been cleaned, but the lighting, flimsy shower curtains, and steel toilet made it feel like somewhere in between an old high school locker room and prison.

I do like that they have the little napkins on the restroom doors for opening them on your way out.

That reminded me of the time I used the restroom by the casino on I think it was the Dream.  I used one of the little napkins to open the door, then turned around to find the wastebasket to throw it away.  It was on the wall about ten feet away from the door.  All of the little napkins were on the floor because it was too far away to let go of the door and throw them in the basket.
