Celebrity shuttle Civitavecchia to FCO

With the ship airport shuttle do you still have to claim luggage and take it to the bus? OR does Celebrity load the luggage automatically on the bus or even check it right through to the airline?  If it matters, we will be in the Edge. 

Any firsthand experiences are appreciated and what did it cost?

We have not done a ship transfer in Civitavecchia but in other ports we have had to collect our luggage and take it to the bus.  

Have you joined the Roll Call for your cruise?  We usually join others from the Roll Call and book a private transfer to/from the port.   Much easier and often costs less.

From previous experience you collect your own luggage, put it on the bus, wait to take it off the bus at the other end and move it yourself to check in. With up to 50 others in each coach trying to do the same thing....

 

Which is precisely why we opted for private transfer every time!  I don't recall the precise cost but for 3 of us it was cheaper to get a private taxi than to put 2 on the shuttle.  I think the break even point is about 2.5.  So for two alone the shuttle is cheaper; but for larger groups a car is cheaper. 

 

As J suggests you can go on your roll call and see if anyone wants to share a private hire.  Depending on how much luggage you have they take up to 6 I think.  The only difficulty with that is that you need to share the same disembarkation time or be in suites so it doesn't matter.  There is no point in sharing a ride with someone whose disembarkation time is an hour after yours!
