rotjeknor Posted January 5, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2020 Can anybody tell me what is meant by " the eligible amounts paid " in HAL's CPP ? Does that mean if I cancel say before final payment and have paid 50% , that they refund 80% of that 50% ? I find it a bit confusing . Must be a language thing.... their translation in Dutch is equally confusing 🤔 Thanks !
MAVIP Posted January 5, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2020 Good question. Portcharges and other taxes maybe not "eligible"?

Here, even if I have paid 50% if it is before the penalties start (quite often final payment ) then the full amount is reimbursed without the need for the CPP. Once the penalties start, HAL refunds 80% of the cruise fare (for the standard plan). My understanding is that the port/taxes consist of port charges and taxes. I believe the tax portion is non commissionable and not eligible. I haven’t cancelled but a person I know who did had the tax portion refunded by HAL and the remainder was refunded by the CPP at the 80%. Note - The CPP MUST be selected before any penalties commence on your cruise contract.
rotjeknor Posted January 5, 2020 Author #4 Share Posted January 5, 2020 Ok, thanks this clarifies things for me. The penalties and cancellations terms are the same as in the US.
catl331 Posted January 5, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2020 (edited) We once cancelled a cruise 9 days before sailing, with the Platinum cancellation plan. We had paid HAL $4796, including $436 air fare, $544 taxes/fees/port expenses, and $378 for the CPPP premium. We were refunded $4040, or 91% of the $4418 not counting the CPPP cost. We had cancelled all pre-booked amenities 2 days before cancelling the cruise, and were refunded 100% of those amounts.
