When you pay your onboard charges by credit card they will be converted to $USD by your bank. Same for prebooking any excursions; your bank will make the foreign exchange. Before you make any such payments check to see if your bank charges any fees to do this. There are many banks that do not. An approximation of today’s bank exchange rates can be found online, here is one: xe.com
spirit rev Posted February 23, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2020 The on board currency will be the AUS $. When you registure your credit card the charges will be reported in the onboard currency. Your credit card company will do the conversion when they bill you. Yes, it will be less in US$$. We were on the Ruby in January. At that time there was an automatic fee charged (I think under 2%) for using a credit card for payment of onboard charges. satxdiver Posted February 24, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2020 Be aware that in Australia they often (always?) charge a fee for using a credit card. The card will always be charged in AUD and the credit card issuer will change it into USD posting it on your monthly bill. Also be aware if your credit card issuer charges a foreign conversion fee which can be as high as 3% or more. The foreign conversion rate varies constantly and can be found at many places on the web one of which is https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/. If you have OBC because of stockholders etc it will be posted to your ship folio but at a 1 to 1 exchange. For instance if you have a $100 USD OBC granted in the US, it will post on your Australian departure as $100 AUD!
AF-1 Posted February 24, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) download a currency converter app to your smartphone. That way you can keep up with the currency exchange Edited February 24, 2020 by AF-
