It is for  dinner jacket<s> (assuming sports-type jackets?), but not if we're talking more formal wear including dress slacks, shoes, cummerbund, etc, etc. Some of us need more room or weight for medications, snorkel gear, MP3 player for our balcony, martini shaker, etc. Those latter items I use much more often than the formal wear. Don't get me wrong, I used to really like looking more like James Bond than Archie Bunker, but it's just not practical for us anymore. 😎

Sorry. My Dinner jackets are the same as Tuxedos. 
Mine are slim fit though and the four weigh the same as my old black dinner suit and the white tuxedo I used to take.

I do get it that other luggage items can take priority. As I said, what others wear I really don’t care. I dress up to compliment  my wife and not for anyone else.

Well done. I'm always amazed when I see a lady dressed very elegantly,  accompanied by a bloke who is dressed as if he is going to dig the garden!
