Steve Kroschel is a character.  I enjoyed the excursion and would recommend it.

What else does the excursion consist of, how long of a ferry & bus ride?

It’s a short bus ride,  Have you watched Nat Geo TV’s Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet?  She has visited Steve’s center  to care for a wolverine.  It was so funny when he massaged the wolverine’s gums to relax it so she could sedate the wolverine for surgery!   Dr. Oakley also treats animals at the Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage.  Some of her recent shows originate in Haines.  

 

If you are in Haines the Kroschel Refuge Center is a fun experience.  You can also “kiss a moose” by holding a carrot in your mouth while the moose (on the other side of the fence)chomps on the other end of the carrot!
