Debarkation Process

I'm an experienced cruiser but have not been on HAL yet.  I'm curious how debarkation works on HAL, everything from picking up luggage zone tags (if that's even a thing on HAL), luggage pickup by the crew, what order passengers are called to get off, etc.  (We'll be on Eurodam Jun 11th).

Normally you have to fill out a form concerning your post cruise plans a few days prior to debarkation.  The day before you should get an envelope with your luggage tags and directions on what to do.  Of course, this depends on what options you selected.

If you are self disembarking (carrying off your own luggage), you naturally keep your luggage with you, but otherwise your luggage has to go out in the hallway by your cabin around midnight.

Self disembarkers leave the ships first, then HAL starts calling off colors to get off in order.  When you get off you go get your luggage in a color coded area on the pier and then proceed to exit.  Color assignment is based on Priority clients first, then those with early flights and or transfers.  Order can vary depending on the port.

Since you will be debarking in Seattle look into Port Valet.  It is a wonderful free service provided by the Port of Seattle in cooperation with most cruise lines.  You put your luggage outside your cabin the night before, it is taken directly to the airport and you pick it up at your final destination airport.  There is no hassle having to search for your bags once you get off the ship.  You can sign up online before your cruise or forms will be provided about the second day on the ship.  We debarked the Eurodam two weeks ago and it worked perfectly.  If you have an early flight it allow you to be first off the ship. Best part, it is FREE.

HAL uses a color system to organize and move your luggage to the baggage area in the terminal.  Your luggage will be collected around midnight and placed in luggage cages for movement to the terminal baggage in the order of disembarkations.  Using the same tags that you placed on your luggage when you boarded the ship, your items will be placed together in the appropriate color zone inside the terminal.

Leaving the ship before your luggage tag color is called, means your luggage is probably not yet in the terminal.

The baggage color zones are clearly marked and there will be porters available if you wish to hire them.

Would it be prudent doing this if our flight isn't until the evening (7:30 PM)?

We are planning to spend the afternoon seeing a couple of sights in Seattle before heading to the airport.

Yes, Port Valet was designed for this. Put your large bags out the night before, keeping any carry-ons with you.

When we were on the Nieuw Amsterdam in September the luggage tags were at guest services and you went and picked up which ones you wanted. We got a letter in the cabin telling us what  color, etc. Since we are 4 * we could disembark any time we wanted and our tags were delivered to us. We waited until the last call to disembark and our luggage was sitting right there waiting for us. This, by the way, was in Seattle.

I believe there is a Port Valet form that you fill out for baggage fees (we had no charges flying first class). Also, be sure your checked bags are not overweight, or that will be additional.
