Have Cruise Critic roll calls died?

I think COVID was the death blow to Cruise Critic. Before COVID a lot of people were setting up ones on other social media sites. I have always enjoyed a lively roll call but it seems social media has killed this site quite well. It still has it's regulars (me being one of them) but not as many new people or it's a question answered and to never be seen again. Sad because this used to be a fun place to check daily...

Hey now! I'm new...well as of March, mainly because I had booked a cruise in April. I'm still here though, spreading my lovely opinions all over hehe

I remember back in the day when someone would set up a meet and greet, slot pull, pub crawl, and cabin crawl (always good times) haven't seen that so much on my past few cruises.

Ooooooo I'm doing the slot pull for my CC roll call...which is myself and some other person that still hasn't responded to me 😞 I did advertise it on Facebook (the slot pull, not the roll call) - and have about 4 people interested. I need to get some points on the casino card - where is everyone?!?! *little tear streaming down my cheek*

We use the other group.  We find the people that post there are less likely to make racist comments behind their keyboard which are condoned by this site, just because the bullies have a ton of posts, mostly correcting everybody else’s posts even though they haven’t been on a cruise in years, and mostly dont have a clue.

I've seen a lot of rude posts, but haven't seen a racist one on this site. Do you lurk a lot? Where do you see them? Do you report these posts (I sure hope so)? The moderators can't moderate if you don't report.

I have a mental rolodex of those that are rude and try not to engage with them.

Imagine the old common phone book which inside had white pages that listed your name, address and phone number and this book was distributed to everyone for free! Hate to break it to everyone, but your information is readily available to anyone with the most rudimentary of research skills.

No doubt, but said phone books didn't  list when you'll be out of town and for how long...not any of the ones I saw.

So I can't just stroll through the meet and greet saying "who wants to go to fantasy island? $30 bucks, payable to me, right now?" Well heck, there goes my side business.   Quite true

Who the heck does this?   I have certainly seen something very similar to this happen    If someone asks me what shore excursions I'm going on, I'll tell them at a meet and greet, in front of the captain, I don't care. No one is going to boot me for taking a shore excursion and telling someone where I'm going.    No problem from me with that.

My experience of the posters on the "other" platform is that they are like seagulls. They fly in, splatter crap all over the place either in the form of complaints or rudely worded demands for information, and then fly away, never adding anything of value.

Now this made me laugh....typical behavior on FB I'm afraid.  I go there less and less for anything.

But, please tell me (you don't have to) that you get compensated for all your time and effort in some way...a bottle of wine, OBC, a thank you from CC or NCL.

Quite willing to answer.

The perk I get from NCL specifically for arranging the M&G is to be able to eat breakfast and lunch in the Suite dining room.

I do get quick and direct access to the officers.  Often to help other CC cruisers.

The main compensations are the thanks from other cruisers for arranging something that they have enjoyed and where they have made new friends.
