Insurance warning

I've been following a thread on another well-known social media website which could possibly impact upon all of us. Lady was on a cruise and stay holiday with P&O and as per all cruise lines her mum put her suitcase out on the last night ready for the staff to collect. Sadly at some point between then and disembarking the case disappeared.  The insurance company, Staysure, is refusing to pay out as they are saying that she had left the case unattended.  P&O are also being unhelpful.  Where does this leave all of us?

Same situation as when you hand over your bags at an airport.  They become the responsibility of the handling company, in this case P&O staff.

Cameras cover all corridors and areas on P&O ships so footage can be reviewed to see if it was removed by an official or stolen.

I have often wondered about the "unattended" clause in travel insurance policies. Are any of the following scenarios covered?

 - checked luggage goes missing while in the care of an airline

 - luggage handed over to port or cruise line employees when joining or leaving a ship (Staysure obviously feel that this is not covered)

 - luggage handed over to a hotel concierge to carry to/from hotel room

 - luggage handed over to a hotel concierge for temporary storage

If it is felt that the Insurance company is acting unreasonably over a claim then a formal complaint should be made

Has there been any update on this?  if someone took the wrong bag in error

there should at the end of the day been a bag left over.

Not that I'm aware of. If someone took it along with their own that would mean no cases were left behind.
