That's why you don't ask.  You just do.  If it fails, nothing lost.  They are sure not going to give you instructions to do something they don't want you doing...

Ok, try and follow along here....they told me to cash out the non refundable OBC through a slot machine in the casino. I didn't try it because I found out AFTER I had spent the OBC in a jewelry store on board.

I'm not sure why some people are insisting that the OP should continue to be upset when they are not. If the OP planned to spend at least $250 onboard anyway, this is an issue of principle, not an actual issue. "You must return the $250 to my credit card".... so I can spend it with you anyway.

There are more important things in life than arguing about principles. If I was in a tiff with Kroger over them overcharging me, and they finally agreed to give me store credit - I would take that in a heartbeat. It would have been spent anyway, therefore, it's virtually the same as cash. If that concession saved the OP more hours of arguing over this point, good for them.

But that is the point - it was not resolved favorably.  The OP was overcharged for something, and rather than refunding him/her, they gave her nonrefundable OBC which he/she has to spend on the ship.  It should have been a refund back to whatever card paid, and a small OBC given as an apology for what happened.  Instead, he/she was overcharged and is now obligated to spend that overcharge on board whether or not they want to.

Agree. Celebrity messed up by overcharging cc they need to correct by giving refund. For me the NR OBC just wouldn't cut it as I may have to spend on something I normally would not purchase just to use it up.  This is a win win for Celebrity.

Not me if someone owes me cold hard cash for an overcharge messed up whatever you call it I want my money back not store credit or a gift card which can be lost.  Principles matter.

Hey all. I just had the same issue. I am a single passenger who won an upgrade totalling $420 (210x2). I was billed an extra 87.50 on top of the $420. I am only one pax. Not sure what to do.

On top of that, they didn’t assign me an upgraded cabin until a week later and when they did, it was the wrong class.

trying to resolve the cabin issue with my agent, not sure what I’ll do about the overbilling. I def will NOT be OK with OBC as I already have OBC and don’t spend money on board.

They owe you the $87.50 back to your credit card. As far as incorrect cabin assignment if there are no cabins left in the category you won they need to assign you a higher category.  They are probably hoping you take the over payment as OBC. Do not budge on this.

Thanks for that. I won’t budge, I just dunno who is to resolve it, my agent or celebrity.

I was interior and I bid on porthole veranda and they put me in an infinite. I specifically bid on porthole and sunset because I wanted a sliding door balcony. I guess they consider infinite an “upgrade” over porthole but I won’t take it for that price.

if they wanna keep me in an infinite free, I’ll take it, but I don’t consider it an upgrade, I would absolutely take my $420 and stay interior. That’s a lot of cash for a solo and in Canadian dollars.

If you went through a TA they have to call on your behalf. As far as the porthole yes the IV is an upgrade but remember the porthole balcony view is a cut out from the hub and not great but as you say not worth the $420. Possibly they will let you keep at no cost. I'm also Canadian and always factor in conversion rate before I make a decision.

Thanks… I don’t feel the IV is worth the $420, the porthole was what I wanted, so I’m all or nothing on it.

does it actually say somewhere in moveup terms and conditions that they are “entitled” to move you to a higher category if your won-bid

category wasn’t available? That seems suspect to me.

For example if someone bids on a sunset veranda and then gets whatever celebrity considers a “higher class cabin”, that’s a pretty big change in what ya asked for eh?!

I know with other cruise lines, bidding on categories is usually a lot more general and they DO reserve the right to place you in any kind of cabin within your won category, but celebrity’s bid system specifically listed the types of subcategories within each category to bid on…

I just heard back from the TA, he said the IV is considered an upgrade. I told him I’m not accepting it and I guess the battle begins.

I am not paying $420 for a “sliding window”

Did you question the overcharge? If they give you trouble you can do a credit card chargeback with your bank as a double billing.  I've always had success in this area mind you it was a different issue.  Yes the IV is a definite upgrade even at $420.  Check the terms and conditions Celebrity is good at covering themselves. Let us know the outcome.

On the overcharge, yes the agent said they’ll reverse the 87.50

Just curious why you want a smaller window (porthole) on a lower deck. You can keep your IV window closed, like a porthole.

I want the feeling of a real outside balcony with a separate glass door and not a roll-down window. I don’t mind the infinites over an interior, but I wouldn’t have paid $420 for it.

But the porthole doesn't get you that real outside balcony with a door. As I understand it, you bid $420 for and still want a porthole - which is a small window that doesn't open.

Porthole view with VERANDA, see attached photo… not just the window 🙂 I wouldn’t dare pay $420 for a window haha.

The porthole verandah absolutely does have a sliding glass door and a cove balcony behind the porthole in the hull.

I personally agree with the OP entirely on this. While I know celebrity considers IV an upgrade over porthole, I don’t. To me, upgrades from porthole are either sunset or aqua (which yes has IV but also has blu and Thermal

suite), or a suite.

Exactly…thank you.
I don’t even think the moveup allows for them to place you in an upgraded subcategory within the larger category. I think That is why moveup allows you to bid very specifically on what you want…

I hope my agent can resolve but I am not holding my breath bc I think he feels I’m being upgraded, I am sensing this may end up going to chargeback… I have all documentation saying what my upgrade was to, etc etc. I will wait until day of boarding to see if I can resolve at check in or customer service and deal with chargeback when I’m home.

It doesn't matter how he feels or doesn't feel.  If you bid for porthole and got an IV which you don't want for reasons stated they need to make it right and put you in a porthole or credit your $420.  Don't waste your time going to GR when you board. They won't be able to help you.

If I bring my docs with the upgrade info and they have a porthole veranda available it won’t hurt to ask, I think. I am new to celebrity and usually I find when you sail on a cruise line for the first time, they go to bat for you 🙂

Doesn't hurt to try but you're best to get it resolved now. GR is crazy busy on the first day and this may be time consuming. Do what you think is best and Good Luck.
