*New* Venice tourist tax

I'm not sure that I'm convinced a 10 euro fee (at most) will deter many people from visiting Venice when you think of the total costs involved (for many of us reading this) to get there. Especially since it sounds like sort of an honor system as to whether you've paid -- rather like riding the buses...

Oh well, at least it will garner Venice some extra funds to repair all the wear and tear and damages caused by those tourists.

I feel like it'll hurt students and artists and such, those whom you'd kind of want to have access to the city, though maybe as can often be the case, pensioners and students etc will be free or reduced charge.

Otherwise, yes! The money can only help with preservation and restoration costs. We hope 🙂

Thanks again for sharing!

So according to a German newspaper report the tourist fee was supposed to start Jan 16th. But as there is still an online referendum going on til Jan 7th the final decision by the officals is still pending. So the Jan 16th date won´t happen. They are now talking about summer. BTW the first plans were there in 2019. It´s the fifth attempt to install a tourist fee....

So let´s wait and see when this fee will be charged.... or if ever...

The entry tax to Venice for tourists who do not stay there, initially scheduled for January 16, 2023, will not become effective until 2024.

Travelers departing from Marco Polo di Tessera, the nearest airport to Venice, will have to pay a €2.50 surcharge. The fee will come into effect on April 1, 2024.

We are paying an additional 4.5 per night and staying 4 nights. All the hotels are charging this. Maybe they always have. Blip on the screen with the nightly cost being charged. Hotel prices in Venice this Spring are over.the.top.
I know this ‘new tourist tax’ is something different mostly designed for ‘day trippers’.
