How do I avoid using Free at Sea dining for a particular meal?

I have the standard FAS 2 dinner package. Suppose I go to a premium restaurant for a snack. How do I prevent it from counting as a FAS dinner so I can use the FAS package dinners later in the cruise at higher value restaurants?

You tell the hostess when you are checking in at the restaurant that you want it charged to your ship board account and not use a FAS voucher. We do this all the time at Food Republic and Q.

Thanks. Sounds like this is a routine occurrence. I want to avoid having to deal with this after the fact.

If the server does screw it up, you can just go to guest services to have the mix up reversed.

I'll also point out they will come to you at the end of the meal with a check to sign.  Assuming no upcharges, the total should be zero when using a FAS meal.  In your case, you would expect the check to be some non-zero total and if it's not you have them correct it right then and there.

The easiest is to just tell the host/hostess that you will be paying this meal a-la-carte, and then just repeat the same sentence to the waiter, and there should be no misunderstandings at all.

It is simple. When you check in, the hostess will ask you how you are paying. Room charge. FAS Specialty Dining Package. Platinum dinner voucher. Other voucher. 
 

You can double check when the waiter brings you the bill to sign.
