Essence08 Posted January 7, 2023 #401 Share Posted January 7, 2023 Kids menu from last week. Not overly inspiring. It was ok fur my 4 yr old but I’d be encouraging your grandkids to order from the main menu. Even if you have to make a few modifications. mid you would like the kids club program ftom a 13 night cruise let me know and I’ll post it. I only have the 3-7 yr old program, not sure what she yours grandkids are.

Flew in from Perth to Melbourne yesterday and stayed last night at the sofitel on Collins. Lovely hotel with great views. I'm cruising with my mum for the first two cruises and solo for the last one. Join in this thread anyone else on board. Will attach my first glimpse of the ship from my hotel room earlier this morning Thanks for taking the time to post this thread. Really appreciate it. I am looking at booking on the Grand Princess next year and all your (and others) information is a great help. Thanks again.....and I look forward to the posts from the rest of your cruise.

That is how we feel about cruising NZ and why we have a window suite this time. Real shame there isn't more of them on more ships ☹
Rare yes!yes!yes! Posted January 9, 2023 Author #409 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Last night we tried the crown grill. Was hard to get a booking for last cruise and sadly it wasn't worth the wait. Steaks were better in the dining room. We didn't eat them. Had the sirloin and a ribeye and they were both rubbish. Should of had the rack of lamb. We didn't make a fuss. Just told them we weren't hungry.
NSWP Posted January 9, 2023 #410 Share Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) Looks very ordinary to me, the steak is cremated, onion soup looks like it was made last week and the bread roll has rubber bands coming out of it. Pity, Crown Grill tucker is normally good. Edited January 9, 2023 by NSWP 1
Rare cruiser3775 Posted January 9, 2023 #411 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Hated that overloaded bun with too much cheese - who needs that before a three course meal? But I loved the salted caramel cheese cake - the best dessert I had on Princess.

Without making a fuss, head waiter on Star Princess insisted on Barb having another meal or being refunded. Thankfully we have had rather edible offerings since, but even on the same Coral, cruise one night was sensational and the other just a pass mark.
Rare yes!yes!yes! Posted January 9, 2023 Author #413 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Change over today from domestic cruise to international. Every one had to come off. Could go back on at 11am. Free shuttle coupon provided. Passport required for immigration.
Rare yes!yes!yes! Posted January 9, 2023 Author #414 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Sadly mum is at the airport going home to Perth after 20 nights holidaying with her. I should have added her to this cruise too. Never mind. We had a ball together. I just hope I don't turn into a hermit without her.
RobinBancs Posted January 9, 2023 #415 Share Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) No free OBC for this one. We had to do our compulsory RAT yesterday and got all negatives. I figure that we won’t need to do one on day 2 Some observations. Like Golden, I hate that the kids club opens to the smoking area of deck 15. You smell it in the corridor to kids club. The Adelaide people are very much an add on cruise. All patter day numbers are based on the out of Melbourne dates which I understand given that MEL is the home port We’ve gone to the Melbourne zoo for the day which I have to say is tamer than Horizon Court. spersephone Posted January 9, 2023 #418 Share Posted January 9, 2023 We had a booking at Crown Grill last night too, and loved it. My daughter had the lamb chops, which I enjoyed on night 2, and the rest of us had the Filet Mignon. It was beautifully tender. We felt absolutely stuffed, even without having any appetisers (by choice to save space for dessert).

Rare yes!yes!yes! Posted January 9, 2023 Author #424 Share Posted January 9, 2023 I'm looking at day trips for this cruise to stop me being a hermit. First port is port chalmers/ Dunedin. I have done the train trip before. Last cruise mum and I just wandered around port chalmers. 4 years ago we just went shopping in Dunedin. Is the olveston house and larnach castle day trip worth doing?. 5 hours. Includes morning tea $159.95.
Rare yes!yes!yes! Posted January 9, 2023 Author #425 Share Posted January 9, 2023 Also thinking of doing the hawkes bay wine country tour for $149.95. 4 hours includes wine tasting and cheeses. Coming from Perth we have a wine region 20 minutes away, will this compare? Was originally thinking the mokaka River float trip for $279.95. But I'm very put off by the bad weather forecast as I know those rivers are freezing cold. Also by the the description, says its grade 2 and you float, no mention of white water rapids
