shark b8 Posted January 11, 2023 Author #52 Share Posted January 11, 2023 …but another well-worth-it bus ride. The Mayan stuff at Quirigua (Guatemala) today starred huge sandstone sculpted stelae.
Rare highplanesdrifters Posted January 11, 2023 #53 Share Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) Crikey, did you go through a carwash? My Bus ride criteria policy: Actual excursion must be longer than the bus ride. But might make a slight exception for those ruins. The details, wowza. 😉 Edited January 11, 2023 by highplanesdrifters
shark b8 Posted January 11, 2023 Author #54 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Bus rides were a little long, but well worth it, we really like the pre-Columbian stuff. Upon arrival back on the ship, yes, whilst holding noses, all clothes were immediately dispatched to the room laundry bag - today we walked about 2-3 miles and climbed all those 3-foot-high stone steps, and the humidity was, oh, I dunno, I’m guessing here, but I’d say….118%? give or take? 😅 mmmm, shower. shower good. Ok, bring on the champagne. 3

florisdekort Posted January 11, 2023 #56 Share Posted January 11, 2023 I don’t mind long bus rides. I do mind guides who feel obliged to yap non stop both ways from departure to arrival, or fellow guests, who when the guide is finally quiet after 90 minutes of non stop yapping, feel the need to ask a question.

shark b8 Posted January 12, 2023 Author #59 Share Posted January 12, 2023 The First Mate and I frequently have a back-and-forth about which dining venue to choose for dinner each night, as I’m sure everyone does. There’s one hard-and-fast rule though…….if the Colonnade has Indian Market Dinner, that’s it, no further discussion, decision chiseled in stone. hoosier74 Posted January 12, 2023 #60 Share Posted January 12, 2023 By the way, if the group you pictured climbing the ruins in Belize were all together, they were definitely Mennonites. You'd never see an Amish gentleman dressed like that. Also when we were in Belize we were told most of the farms along that stretch of river were Mennonite. They have a long history in Belize.
shark b8 Posted January 13, 2023 Author #61 Share Posted January 13, 2023 mmm, Indian Market Dinner at the Colonnade never disappoints. Multiple curries, pakoras, biryani, chutneys, naan…..all the good stuff.

shark b8 Posted January 14, 2023 Author #63 Share Posted January 14, 2023 (edited) “Morgan’s Cave” was pretty touristy/cheesy, but at least Johnny Depp was in our tour group. Edited January 14, 2023 by shark b8

shark b8 Posted January 15, 2023 Author #69 Share Posted January 15, 2023 (edited) We visited the Jaguar Rescue Center, which, as it turns out, has no jaguars. To be fair, the Indian one is my favourite of all the colonnade specials.
