Will be arriving BA 2 days before our cruise.  Has anyone used a private car for touring?  We have sites that we want to see and want to make the most out of our short stay.  Thought hiring a car and driver for one day rather than using taxis may be a better option. TIA.

We ended a cruise in BA on Dec 19th & 20th and had a very good local guide by the name of Tomás Hughes.

We arrived in BA just as Argentina had won the World Cup, so the city was in total chaos and very difficult to get anywhere. Although on our first day, he did manage to show us some parts of the city and gave an excellent river boat tour of the delta. On the second day we used his services to get us from the cruise terminal to the airport and with the day being declared a National Holiday to celebrate the World Cup win, that trip was an adventure on it's own!!

We found his rates to be very reasonable and he speaks good English. You can find out about what he offers at:

We did three days without local currency. We charged on our low credit card and ended up getting the cash rate which was 303 pesos per dollar as Argentina currency can be changed outside of country

@tony sI heard there may have been changes with the visa card exchange rate. Did you happen to use visa?

I've read that only American Express - maybe - isn't using the higher exchange rate.  Their exchange rates aren't published on-line so it's hard to tell.  I plan to use Visa.

We did 90% of the time and made out great. Cloning is an issue. I would use a low limit card and insist on watching card at all times . Most places will bring machine to table or escort wait staff to cashier and watch. Also get two receipts one for items and second had card last 4 digits

I presume some small amount of cash may be needed for tips to guides etc.?  We'll be in BA for 3 days prior to cruise.  Planning to mostly use credit card but also wanted to do some "free" walking tours.  Any idea how payment for those is best handled?

We just returned from BA and used Howard from BA Taxis. He is a brit who moved to BA about 18 years ago. Fantastic guide and very reasonable. Excellent communication by either email or WhatsApp.

Here is his contact info: Howard +54 9 11 5164 1006 or you can contact BA Taxis https://www.buenosairestaxis.com

Not sure when you are leaving but I booked him 6 months ahead of time. He is very popular and busy.
