Beav1279 Posted January 31, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2023 Howdy! I know that the drink package on Princess & Carnival ships can't be used for alcohol drinks until day 2 because of the TX laws.. but can you still get soda and specialty coffees on day 1 with your drink package?
jbrinkm Posted January 31, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2023 Yes, it is liquor that is the issue. And there is actually a limited menu of alcoholic items that you can get - I've seen the picture recently so I'm sure there's someone around here that can post it. Yes you can still by drinks (limited alcohol menu) and all soft drinks but just not with your package. they don't charge you for the package that day either.
wilycoyote76 Posted January 31, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2023 Following this as well, going on Ruby Princess in a month. Want confirmation but it sounds like Carnival and Princess are doing it differently even though they have the same parent company. Carnival doesn’t charge you for cheers on embark day so I assume you’re paying for any drinks alcoholic or otherwise until day 2. It sounds like Princess offers a limited menu until you hit international waters. I’m paying for the package for all 7 days on Princess so that would make more sense. If that’s wrong please confirm otherwise. 1

Thanks for correct info - I didn't realize that different ship corps did it differently!

Thank you!
FrankieJayIII Posted March 18, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 18, 2023 Ive heard this ONLY applies to Texas Ruby trips... California Ruby out of SF- its active when you get on boat... but I still believe you pay the taxes on drinks in port... SF and otherwise.

The drink package starts first day when you hit international waters, usually around 7pm.

Yes, do we pay extra the first day for bottle water & sodas on the Regal out of Galveston. One passenger in our group purchased the Classic Soda package.
