Happy to hear, you are considering seeing what

Chioggia has to offer.

It seems you might know Chioggia well.

We will be spending our anniversary there and will be looking for a nice restaurant.  Any suggestions?

Also, we are going to do a 7 hour excursion that involves a cruise to Murano and Burano from Chioggia.  Do you know anything about it?  For example, how long does it take to get to the islands from Chioggia?  What sort of boat is it?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Only did an auto day trip there years ago when we were visiting villas on the Bretna Canal and small towns south of Venice.
My DW reminds me that we had an excellent lunch at El Gato
Here is an article on dining in Chioggia that mentions the restaurant.

Don’t really know how long the voyage would be from Chioggia.
The only time we visited Murano and Burano we went by the water bus from Venice. I think it took about 20 minutes to get to Murano, then maybe 30 minutes or so to get to Burano from there. It was quite a while ago

times may not be accurate.

Should be a lovely trip from

Chioggia.
Hope you have sunny skies and great weather.

There is inexpensive and frequent public bus service to/from

Chioggia to Piazzale Roma in Venice and also Padua.
Chioggia itself is rated a NY Times travel destination to see.

The public bus between Chioggia and Venice (No. 80) doesn’t operate on weekends.

Where did you get this information?

I believe they operate on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays,

just not as frequently.
Perhaps hourly instead of

half hourly.

Easy enough to look up for anyone considering it, but since I’m not taking the bus, I’m not concerned.

You will be in Chioggia. In September our Viking Sky itinerary said  Marghera for about three months. Then it switched. As far as knowing who else will be in port, the answer is no other ships. Chioggia is not that big and Viking seems to have cornered the market on docking there. The big ships are going to two other ports (All the Carnival Brands seem to use Trieste and the Royal, NCL and MSC folks go to Ravenna).

Azamara will also be using Chioggia this year.

The change Viking made to Chioggia from the industrial port has good and bad news for sure. Good news - you can walk off and on  the ship at will vs industrial port the bad news - if Venice was your goal, and you cannot go in early or stay over - then your time spent there will be shorter.
Not sure about docking space for other ‘smaller’ ships. Seabourn is using Fusina this year.

Chioggia mid May for us also, Istanbul to Barcelona. Today at 4 est shore excursions open up for us in PV. As of 8am there are no shore excursions posted for the second day in Venice. Neither are there any for the second day of Athens, and nothing for Rome. Call to Viking asured us they would be up pre booking deadline. The Venice on your own excursion states "cruise" , but not a location in Venice. Anyone know? Be nice to know where they place us. They do offer an Island and Abbey excursion to Murano and Burano on day 1. We dock at noon. They have us returning to the ship by 8pm.

On our excursions, the included tour "Venice On Your Own" states after the cruise you will be dropped off at Palazzo Cornoldi and will also be picked up there to go back to the ship.

Interesting. On our April cruise there is no “Venice on your own,” only the full tours. It appears Viking is not providing and other way to get there.
