Note that kids don't HAVE to order from the kid menu. Several times we asked for something on the adult menu but asked for sauces on the side. There is only so many chicken nuggets and fries one kid should eat.

Certainly true.  Also true is that adults can order off the kid's menus.  I've done that occasionally, especially on those long cruises when I get tired of the "fancy" stuff on the adult menu.
