Pat6116 Posted March 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Hello, Tried posting in the roll call and did not get a response. My husband likes to spend his afternoon sea days sitting in the sun on the balcony. Which side is better when going from NYC to Rome. Appreciate the help Thanks Pat

Ex-Airbalancer Posted March 3, 2023 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2023 we have done 5 of each crossing but never from NYC If you doing Westbound it is port side especially in November Doing an April Eastbound is a hard call as the sun appear to be high over head compared to a November and in the afternoon we usually sitting at some bar outside 😁

But we have favored Starboard the majority of the times cabins are offered.

Since the latitude of New York is about 40 degrees and at the end of April, the sun is still only about 11 degrees north, it will be at a higher altitude than November, but not close to being overhead. Depending on courses, the sun will be on the Stbd side in the afternoon. The altitude (height) of the sun also depends on the ship's clox and the time of meridian altitude, which is when the sun is at its highest point. If meridian altitude is before noon, by mid-afternoon the sun will already be at a lower altitude, whereas when meridian altitude is about 13:00, the sun is at a higher altitude mid-afternoon.
