When we were in Southampton just before boarding a cruise ship there a few years ago, we visited an old house/museum with a rooftop garden.  I think it was called something like Tudor House Museum or something like that.

Also if you get the ferry to Hythe you can get a bus tour around the New Forest,they have 3 routes and you can connect to the various routes.Search New Forest bus tours if you’re interested.

We used an UBER from Southampton to Portsmouth. Both ways.

That was 4 years ago and I do recall it was not cheap But we went door to door and was faster than other choices.
