Although the meals are "free", the prices per item are going up, up, up. One crab cake $19 now.

Does that mean that "free" now costs more than it used to?🤣

Is anyone actually paying for these meals?

Of course not.  It's just marketing.  Most of us ignore it all and just enjoy our dinners/cruises.😎

There was a time when they got strict with the platinum limits.

got a bill from Le Bistro for $1+tip for the Lamb,

Next cruise they were more flexible and made those little charges them go away.

Don't sweat the small stuff I owe NCL more over the years than they possibly could owe me for the trivial charges.

.

On top of the more accommodating servers that just make things right,

Had times when a new POS system could not do one with voucher one PAYG.

Had cruises on sale with unlimited everything eg 10 days $650pp(inc taxes) did 12 speciality on that cruise as open for lunch as well as dinner.

Just a lazy waiter. Rather than going through the effort to modify the cake order to include ice cream, it was easier just to hit the Ice Cream button on the order tablet.

Bird has it right, as usual.  Each of the servers seems to have a different relationship with his/her tablet.  Some of them get quite, uh, creative with how they input orders.  Everybody knew it was going to be zeroed out at the end, so, no harm no foul.
