Overbooked Cruise. Thoughts?

BUT, how much are they spending on making it up to those they bump?

Probably not much.  Cruise lines make money on the upsells like beverage packages, excursions and the casino, not the cabin.

Airlines and Cruise lines are two different things....Lets make it clear..I am for the customer on this one  not for a billion dollar Corp!!!

It's great that you are for the customer on this one, but what's your argument for why overbooking shouldn't be legal?

If you're advocating for "never get a refund under any circumstances" then overbooking wouldn't be necessary.  But... that's anti-customer.  Customers die, get sick, lose their passports, or have other emergencies and simply no-show all the way up until sailing time.  And some of them may be entitled to a refund. Going to no-overbooking is going to result in fewer cases where a refund might be issued.

There's also a percentage of higher end suites that never get booked for full retail. Without a need to free up lower category cabins thru upgrades, offering the upgrades might not make as much sense.

Say cancellations run at 1%.  On Oasis that would be roughly 25 cabins at $2000 per cabin.  That's and extra $50k plus on board spend on every sailing.  That's big money when looking at 20+ ships

but it's not the $50K... as thats not refundable, (not a loss to RCI)... However the onboard spend is a lot for sure !

Cheers

I'd take #1 in a heart-beat.  I'd assume I'd still be paying taxes, etc.  That won't be an offer I'd get since I'm in the cheapest option.  (Promenade Interior)

I signed up for the offer and got accepted. Still have to pay port fees taxes and gratuities.I assume I’m still paying for the extras I bought (separate invoice).

Meanwhile they are still trying to get me to bid on Royal up. I may just do that now.

A big negative is having my cabin moved right by the main dining hall. 😐

Are there no other cabins in your category to move to?
