Do I need to add second person?

I have a cruise coming up in just over a week.  The cruise is paid off for two persons in the cabin, but I have yet to add a second person to my booking.  And now it seems I will be cruising by myself.  So here are my questions.  1). Can I checkin if I don’t add a second guest to my reservation?   2). If I do add a second person but that person is a no show will there be any problem for me at embarkation?  (fyi the cruise is a casino offer in my name).  3) If I cruise as a solo in a cabin booked for two persons will they charge me two gratuities each day?  Thanks in advance for any insights here.

I have not had an issue w/the 2nd person being a no show. And have only been charged with dailies for self.

No insight on not adding a second name as I've always had a 2nd name, but assume you need one or they'll know you really intended it to be solo and may get dinged a surcharge

Carnival will refund fees and taxes of 2nd pax automatically to whatever card you used to pay when they are a no show.

They woukdnt charge tips for someone who doesnt board.

What if there is no second person?  I have a cabin booked for my adult child with second guest as TBD.  I realize I will be paying both fares, but can I leave the second guest as tbd and not even complete boarding information if we don’t get someone to go? Do I need to call carnival and let them know that it will be a solo passenger in that cabin?

You can call Carnival and present them with the situation of having an open second slot just in case and not needing it and what you need to do in that situation. Tell them nothings settled yet your just checking since you haven't found anyone wanting to go. I don't believe you can leave the space as TBD and actually check in. You have to have someone there or remove the second passenger option. You could just list a family member not going and then have them be a no show and you'll be refunded taxes/fees with no other issue if you don't want to call Carnival.

Having a "name" no show is better than leaving it open - I've sailed several times w/a no show - no problems; port fees taxes refunded as @Jasonsterling daid. But having no name I really think will result in a so for supplement charge. The "name" has to comp!eye checkin, fyi.

This happened to me a few months ago. Called to cancel third person and was told there would be a cancellation fee. So I just added my daughters name and she ended up being a no show. No fee and got my port fees and taxes back within 2 weeks of returning home.
