Just returned from a Cruise on Uniworld around the Venice Lagoon. Similar excursions can easily be booked thru TripAdvisor or Viator.

1. After-hours small group tour of Saint Marks. Simply amazing. It includes closeup views of the golden altar and the original crypt. iPhone photos can’t capture the full experience. IMG_7413.thumb.jpeg.0da53526b87c365b2158feaac2d815ef.jpeg

2. Take the vaporetto to Burano. Simply beautiful. IMG_4220.thumb.jpeg.bbdd02df4538da62aacc571c51cd5b67.jpegIMG_7467.thumb.jpeg.a6c550bb00d124ec857d3186e083ecc3.jpegIMG_4218.thumb.jpeg.6bc5e29dde6c27685e91aef09b578231.jpegIMG_4219.thumb.jpeg.72b935e1ff873052ea516c75a8237150.jpeg

I should have added a day and gone to Burano.  I could have but I was exhausted and had a sinus infection so I spent more time than usual sleeping.  Ugh. Well, maybe I'll go back.

The photos are beautiful.  And I agree, while I didn't go into the basilica, I did see some mosaics in Ravenna and photos just don't do any of it justice!

I've done both and I agree they are both outstanding.

If going to Burano, skip touristy Murano and add Torcello, which is lovely (and away from the crowds).

Yes we did Torcello. That was a hidden gem. A place I never knew I wanted to visit, but blessed that we did.

It was our second time visiting the Venice area and we loved it as much as the first time. Simply magical. Just soaking up the ambiance and beauty.
