Wrong ratings shown on cruise reviews?

On reading some cruise reviews the comments written can show little resemblance to the star ratings given.

I have just had a cruise review published and the ratings shown are not always the ones I (thought) I gave. For example, I sang the praises of a port and only a 1 star rating has shown. I thought I had given a 5 star rating! This is also evident elsewhere, where only 1 star is given for service and I intended 4 stars.

Maybe it is just me being careless, but if I can point to at least 3 ratings errors in my review I guess it happens elsewhere. Of course, the review can't be amended once published.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Never do them.

I guess you take reviews with a pinch of salt

Very large.

With reviews, for anything, I start by looking at the bad reviews and look for a trend and ignore the ones where somebody is having a moan in the hope of getting some compensation.

P&O used to have a questionaire when onboard which you were asked to fill in and post by a certain date at reception. I believe this has now stopped. But I always felt the questions were loaded in favour of the way P&O wished to operate in the future. These included formal evenings and dining preferences and as they say in the Bible " And so it came to pass" Formal evenings are still taking place, but many don't take part. Either because they don't have formal wear or because they don't like the formality of it. Dining on new ships are now all Freedom, well Arvia and Iona anyway, Club has disappeared. Many will point out that cruising today relative to 10-20 years ago is cheaper. But although I am not in any way loaded like the questionaires I do long for how things were when I started cruising. It had a certain wonder about it. The fellow passengers, the overall ambience and the little nice to have extras such as Chocoholics, toiletries in a P&O bag, sandwiches and cocoa at midnight, chocolates on a turned down bed. Now it's all geared to getting people into specialised dining, wine packages, spa treatments, paying extra for a better sunbed in an exclusive area, paying to go to a club with Special guest etc, etc. Maybe it's just me getting old and sad ?

Maybe it is, but that makes two of us.

But...

When I first sailed with P&O it was very much an up market line, but with prices to match. Now it is very much mass market with prices much lower in real terms, but you get what you pay for. I now sail mainly with Saga, which charges similar fares in real terms to what P&O charged 30 years ago and provides a similar experience. If P&O had priced up to a standard during the intervening years rather than cutting back to a price, it could have been a real competitor to Saga. But would it have been able to fill its big ships on that basis? I think not. There is only a limited market for upscale cruising. P&O have taken a business decision to exploit the growing market for modestly priced cruises and commercially this is probably the right one, however much we old hands may lament the loss of P&O as we knew it. As they say, you pays your money and takes your choice.

Always told by captain in his last address that we will be getting an email questionnaire when we get home. Never had one for the last 12 cruises I have done!  Only Feefo which is a waste of time!

I don’t even get a Feefo one 😂

I got both after my last cruise in July. Did the P&O one, not the feefo one.

Have you checked your "spam" box, and/or have you declined to accept marketing emails from P&O?

We don’t get them now either, and we accept all their emails. I don’t think they really want any feedback!

Absolutely! Funny, I get all the other emails from them!

Same here, we get everything else but haven't had a post-cruise questionnaire since c***d. I have a suspicion that might be because we have voiced 'concerns' on the 'first impressions' one we complete onboard. . .

I’ve never had one on board or post cruise for P&O or Cunard since restart. Never had any issues either so would like to do one.

I always try to praise the main crew I've met on those forms but haven't had one after three P&O cruises.

Around a quarter of the people in the Facebook group for my recent Aurora cruise had an email a day or two after getting home - no clue why it's so random.

P&O said I could send feedback to  po.guestsupport@carnivalukgroup.com.

It used to affect crew pay - maybe that's with other lines. We fill in the Shine Awards slips by reception for cabin crew, waiters and others who make a great impression.
