Power points on Coral Princess

We’re sailing on the Coral Princess tomorrow and DW has just asked if we need a power adapter. I can’t remember.

If you have one, take it and it will give you an extra outlet. Otherwise, you have an aussie outlet and a couple of USB-A sockets.

As Geoff advises AU power point and USB points are available in the room.

However maybe not where you would find them the most convenient to use.

I would take one with a short extension cord like the Aldi one below.

I’m currently onboard in a standard cabin. There's 1 AU plug with 2 USB, 2 US at the other end of the counter, 1 US at the old TV shelf and 2 single EU (2 round pin) under the head end of the bed *(didn’t take a photo of them)

These powerboards are getting tougher to get aboard, and we were asked if we had one in luggage prior to boarding Majestic a few weeks ago. The contraband table was well stocked when we disembarked, including examples that look just like that. Take on spec, but I wouldn't advise buying one for the occasion.

Thanks, everyone. I knew CC people would have the answers. We have a USB charger with changeable plugs, similar to the one pictured. It’s now packed although it looks like we could get by with just cables.

The power boards that are considered a possible problem are the ones with surge protection circuits.

I have taken mine on every cruise since 2015, take it with me in carry on bag, with my computer.

I also sent details of it to Princess to check the type was ok, they advised  type ok just show it at boarding.

Things do change, but have taken it on two cruises in the last 12 months. No problems so far.

Looks fine I'd take it.

The trouble these days is the number of USB hungry devises I need to take with me.

Phone; Tablet; shaver; hearing Aids (his & hers); Tooth brushes (his & hers); Watch; Camera battery.

Two points just doesn't do it these days.😄

This is just a 3 night "Seacation". We’re taking phones and tablets. I’m fully bearded at the moment so only shave my neck and I use a razor. We’re not at the hearing aid stage yet although that day is rapidly approaching. We use old fashioned manual toothbrushes and my watch is a self winder I inherited from my grandfather. DW isn’t even taking the camera on this trip, just the phone. 😁

Mine is a non-surge double outlet, much like yours without the USB's. It has been confiscated once in 2018, but there were two identical ones on the naughty table when we disembarked a few weeks ago, so it is becoming more of a blanket ban. I no longer pack mine, as there are enough outlets. I just pack 2 x US and a euro pin adaptor. I already have those from the years of ships with no USB or Aussie outlets.

 

There was some comments that the fire earlier this year on P&O was from a cheap electrical device and not the cigarette butt that many were speculating about.

I use the korjo double adapters, US, EU, UK, etc so easy and never an issue.

The Optus outage included more than their mobile system - land lines and internet as well. Friends have all three services on one plan with Optus so lost all three for hours and hours. Many businesses, hospitals and schools have their landlines through Optus. We were glad we have a different provider for our mobiles. Our internet was down for most of the day.

Oh I know, I'm a Optus customer, I was not amused, at all. But I survived.

The big danger is if you need it for life support back up in an emergency.

I was glad my 93 year old Dad isn’t with Optus that day as he relies on a medical emergency alarm. But it could still happen with other providers too. 
 

My husband is using a negative pressure machine 24 hrs a day for the foreseeable future. If there is a power outage like there was in our suburb a couple of days ago, he is in trouble if the battery runs out.

Yes its a worry with the reliability of power supplies in resent times, with all the cost cutting the power supply companies are making, and the over the top rush to stop coal generation, before reliable alternatives are fully up to the job.

Then they want you to swap over to electric cars, when the systems are having trouble providing power as it is.

 

Very sorry hear about you hubby, I have not heard of a negative pressure machine, what does it do?

I'm assuming its an aid to breathing?

Thanks John. A negative pressure machine helps drain nasties from wounds, promotes healing and although they have been around for some time now are being used more extensively for certain wounds. My husband had the two little toes on his right foot amputated due to an infection from a soft corn which became ulcerated. The machine is attached to the wound with a specialist dressing and tubing. The other end of the tubing is attached to a waste canister in the machine which can be replaced when the nurse visits to change the dressing twice a week.

Good grief that's intense, was going to say how long does have to be on it, then remembered you said foreseeable future, some time then. I would imagine he has to remain relatively inactive while it heals.

If he's been on it a while he must be fairly chomping at the bit.

He’s had it on for two weeks now, we’ve learnt to be organised. Until the wound heals, it seems the machine will be used. We may know more today as Rob has a review at the hospital with the vascular surgical team later this morning. 
 

Unfortunately with the crappy weather we’ve had, Rob is a bit over it. He has walked up and down the driveway and along the street a bit and even came for a drive yesterday and sat in the car while a did a bit of shopping. He rarely would have done that. Hopefully in a week or two he can go and watch grandsons play cricket.
