Anyone done the Adelaide, Melbourne and Tasmania cruise know if we can buy duty free alcohol on it?

Sailing tomorrow on Brilliance with the changed itinerary.   I know we could purchase duty free alcohol on the original itinerary as it was sailing past Willis Island.   Never done this new itinerary before so unsure if it actually ventures into what's classed as international waters so they can sell the duty free alcohol.  Any one know?  I have lots of American dollars so would have been happy to use some of them this way.

You may still be able to but IMO, the prices onboard are not that great.

Unlikely. Possible if they can rule based on the original itinerary, but unlikely.

 

If you see the duty free open on the first night, get in before they change their mind.  As mentioned though, our duty free cruising only gets a decent price when they are visiting a good duty free port.

I was on it a few weeks ago down that area.The shops and casino was open on sea days.They did have cigarettes and booze on display but I don’t know if it was for sale.

 

As said , just go to Uncle Dans ,Duty free isn’t what it used to be. You will use that cash one day.

Yeah, you can't beat the duty free when we sail to Villa.  Having said that, the cheap duty-free shop right up the end of the main street on the left hand side isn't as good as it used to be.  When we were there in July the 1.25 litre bottles of Ballentine scotch were $29 a bottle but only $20 on the ship.  The ship always drops its prices when we are docking in Villa.

When we were in Vila in August, we felt the prices at Fung Kuei were as good as they always had been. When you were comparing the prices on the Ballantine scotch, were the bottles the same size? Usually spirits are 1 litre or 750mls. When P&O ships have Vila on their itinerary they drop their duty free alcohol prices to match those in Vila, or maybe 20 cents cheaper. I haven't ever seen more difference than that. BUT when the ship goes to North Qld, the duty free prices are more than double even though the ship is going into international waters and the prices are duty free.

Yes, definitely the same size.  Ballentines 1.25 litre for $20 on Pacific Adventure. We bought 4 of them and I am still drinking them.  They were the exact same bottles for $29 up in Vila.  I also looked at other items in the shop and they were no cheaper or only a couple of dollars cheaper than onboard.   Maybe P&O realised that unless they offered these competitive prices then no-one would buy from them.

I didn't find the duty free prices on the Coral Princess that expensive last week (Willis Island).  We bought 2 bottles of Bundaberg rum 1.125L for $36 each, which is less than we normally pay for 750ml in Dan Murphys.  Just checked and Dan's current price for the 1.125L is $66.95.

The prices are much lower if the ship is going to Vila. 🙂

Yes, I totally agree 😊 We also bought 2 bottles of Bundaberg with OBC that we would otherwise have struggled to use. I didn't take much notice of other alcohol prices though.

Quite often I don't care even if it was cheaper at Dan's, at Dan's I'm spending my money, on board I'm spending someone else's money.😊

Deffinately cheaper grog on board.🤣
