Miami weather this weekend

Bottom line, weather happens.  That's part of what travel insurance is for.  The forecasts I'm seeing just show a lot of rain.  Unless there are problems with flooding or hurricanes (neither of which are currently showing on the sites I checked), you shouldn't have a problem.  Also, the weather is supposed to be improving  each day from now thru Monday.  If the issue is rain, VV will move activities inside.

My experience on other lines. over 50 cruises....Port Canaveral closed due to hurricane--cruise departed 3 days late (7 night cruise became 4 night) from Port Everglades.  Cruise line offered 1) cancel for full refund. 2) cruise with 40% refund + transportation from MCO or WDW to Port Everglades

Different cruise--port fogged in, cruise delayed 24 hours.  We were held in the terminal till 6pm. at which point the cruise line arranged transportation to local hotel as well as back the next morning.  Got 1/7 of cruise fare refunded.  Trip insurance paid for the food we ordered at the hotel.

Many times--ports of call were changed or eliminated when ship unable to dock due to weather.  That's just the breaks of cruising.  Captain will do what he can based on where the ship is located, available ports, weather, etc.

Until you hear from VV that anything is being changed, assume everything goes as scheduled.

Is anyone concerned about flying into Miami and cruising Scarlett Lady on Sunday considering the weather predictions?

We are currently on the MSC Seashore headed back to Port Canaveral. Our 7am Sunday morning arrival is now going to be at least a 3pm Sunday afternoon arrive. It's probable this weather is going to affect port operations in Miami on Sunday morning as well, you should get a notification from VV if things will be delayed for a Sunday departure.

This massive storm is effecting all of the ports in Florida and will be effecting us until about noon on Sunday. I’m on Scarlet now and we’ve been getting our butts kicked since we left on Wednesday.

No announcements regarding our arrival time on Sunday but I can’t imagine we will be on time. There are approximately 10 cruise ships fighting to dock on Sunday mornings.

I was on the sailing right before you (Dec 8-13) and we were lucky. Had some windy, rocky nights but no change to the itinerary. Did have shows canceled due to safety of the performers. I’m scheduled to be back on tomorrow. Keep us updated if you hear of a delay. Safe travels!

We're on MSC Seashore and have been watching you guys all day off the Starboard side. We have the Viking Mars on our port side. Seashore has been handling everything remarkably well, much better than Valiant did a few weeks ago. Ride has been incredibly smooth thus far, but the worst of the weather will be upon us much later. At least y'all just have to get to Miami, we're going up to Port Canaveral.

I've heard the Wonder of the Seas is making a fast run tonight to get to Port Canaveral tonight before the worst of it. She's only coming in from the bahamas, whereas you and this ship are coming across the Gulf to Florida from Cozumel. Safe travels, I hope y'all get in at a decent time! We're scheduled for a 3pm arrival with 3:30p walk-off. If that holds. 🙂

How is this ship? Considering an 18 night cruise in Jan 24, having only been on Royal Caribbean curious how you would compare? Staff available for food services, or crowds everywhere?  Is smoking permitted or is it contained to only certain areas? I have asthma, so it's a concern.  I would appreciate any and all information. Thanks so much.

Virgin Voyages ships have a dedicated sealed smoking room near the casino and an outdoor one on deck 16, those are the only places smoking is permitted.

Restaurants operate like on land the staff come to your table and take the order. In the Galley food hall (VV doesn’t have a buffet) you can either go to counters like a food hall or flag down a server to take the order to have some hot items bussed to you.

The pool area on sea days can be crowded but the interior of the ship rarely feels busy as crowds spread out between multiple bars and the shows/nightclub and casino.

We just got the update on our arrival time and it’s now arriving Monday at 11:15 not 7:00.

The Notice advised us to contact our airlines asap if necessary. “YOUR SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE CONCERN.”

Do you mean Sunday as in today at 11am? Asking because I’m to board Scarlet Lady today and we’ve been told to arrive at the terminal 2 hours later than our current arrival time.

Yeah. The 17th.
The port of Miami is currently closed and not expected to open until 11:15 with several ships ahead of us in the que. The current advisory said our ETA at the terminal will be 1:15. I suspect that is optimistic.

To VVs credit, they haven’t started asking us to ‘vacate our cabins and wait quietly in the public spaces until they announce we can disembark’.

We're on the MSC Seashore still making our way up the coast to Port Canaveral. We had you guys off our Starboard side most of yesterday and the Viking Mars on our port side. Our 7am arrival was pushed back to 3pm this afternoon. Some of the ships that were in the Bahamas were able to race back in last night, but coming from Cozumel, like you guys are doing, we could not make that run. So we're coming in much slower and staying behind the worst of the weather.

We send the entire cruise in the meat of the storm which is just now moving off of the east coast of Florida. This was a massive 4 day event.

I would suggest you watch a bunch of YouTube videos about VV.  The ones by "Where's Walter Travels" are particularly good--detailed and accurate.

Smoking--one room off the casino and one area of the pool deck only, policy is enforced.
Food--6 sit down restaurants included in fare.  You can make reservations in advance or after boarding.  The Galley is a food court where you can go to the location you wish and order or you can be seated and a server will take your order and bring your food....or a combination of the two.  For instance, we would sometimes go to the salad station and get a custom made salad, then sit down and order hot food thru a server.  Other places are usually rather quick. Food at The Dock is excellent but not always quick.  Pizza is made to order, takes about 10-15 minutes from order till in your hands.  It can be served to eat there or to go.

Crowds...yeah, pool deck on a sea day can be full, but if you go up one deck there are plenty of chairs.  It depends on where you want to be.

Overall, best food I've had on any ship, BUT individual dishes on some lines have been better.  Service--as good as any and better than most.  Crew attitude--excellent.  Seem happy with their jobs and glad to be there.  They get better pay and way better perks than on most lines.

I’m watching the live cam now. Two ships are now docking (MSC Divina and Oasis of the Seas) so at least we’re moving in the right direction.
