Ship movement, forward & aft?

First time sailing on Oceania. Will will be on the Riviera.  Looking at Penthouse Suites on deck 11. Our experience on larger ships in high seas the forward & aft experience a lot of movement.  But, on a ship of this size does does mid ship suites experience as much movement as forward and aft? Your response will help us decide between PH2 & PH1.

Bow and stern (forward and aft) are always going to move/pitch more than midship.

Probably more.  Riviera is not all that 'small' though and I wouldn't think the difference in motion would be substantial.  Not having been on it.... can't tell you from direct experience.

Thanks. To be more clear, if a ship of this size is in rough seas, will the whole ship be bouncing more or less than a ship 2x the size? For example a HAL ship?

Within the past year we've been on both HAL Rotterdam (about 2500 max) and O Riviera (about 1250). Although to some extent motion is motion, my wife (who motion sickness affects more) did feel it more on Riviera, the smaller ship, but mainly in the GDR (or other dining rooms). Our staterooms are midships for all our cruises, and we never felt much in the cabins. It's always in the dining rooms, which are always forward and aft. No escape.

@Denverbri69

Look at the Deck Plans and what is above or below you in the PH1 or 2. Deck 11 can be under the pool deck or under the Terrace Cafe, or possibly under the Artists Loft or Cullinary Center if on Marina or Riviera. Be aware of what is above you, if for nothing more than noise. If your DW has motion issues, there are meds and bands, etc. to be used. Your best bet is probably as close to midship as possible.
Most recently we were on Marina in Antarctica and sailed the Falklands and Drakes Passage and we had the 20-25+ foot waves and we were fine. Bounced off some walls walking the halls but no motion sickness. Our rooms were usually between the Forward and Aft elevators/stairwells.

My DW will always sit in restaurants with her back to the windows so she is not seeing the waves at eye level which cause her to have remembrances of 50 mph winds and 40’ waves in an R Class ship GDR in the Shetland Islands.

Go and ENJOY,

Mauibabes

One other point is that there is a large overhang on deck 11 from the pool deck above. We always take deck 10 when possible. Only relevant if you like sun on your balcony

Agree with @Vallesan, we always go for deck 10 PH.  First time sailing on Marina we had a PH on deck 11 and the cabin was dark from the overhang, and we could hear the chairs scraping from above.

Motion wise, we always go midships.

Midships is closer to the pivot point than fore or aft, and so has less motion.

So, too, does closer to water level.

Strange.  Oceanviews have less motion than Owners Suites.

We sailed on deck 10 on the Riviera last April in the Mediterranean in a Penthouse suite (PH2), about mid ship. Great location and felt no motion or heard any noise.

BUT...we had calm seas. Have been on a ship where a glass of water (or wine) would not stay on the table because of the rocking no matter what part of the ship you were in.
